The young man cracked the screen of a otherwise well working late 2009 Macbook Pro. Took it into the apple store and repair cost would be $500. Seems expensive for an almost 6 yr old device?
The display is broken but in the meantime we hooked it up to a small tv and placed it on the counter where he can use it.
Are there good repair shops who can fix the display issue for less?
btw it broke because he has developed a habit of watching tv on it in his bed and it fell on the floor. We have a no tv in bedroom rule so I am quite inclined to have him wait a good while and use the laptop with a monitor.
Should we pony up the $$ for a new laptop? I feel no because we would be rewarding him for carelessness.
We were planning on upgrading his computer as he will be going to college in September but now I am thinking he can upgrade to a used one
