It is a parabolic wave-guide made out of tin foil.... I will find the template and post it later when I return from the Flea Market.

My home office does have public traffic, so I see foil extension options becoming topics of conversation real quick!

what, you got a highway going thru yur house??

This kind of thing happens in south europe, you buy a rustic little place - house and land, beautifully peaceful, in the middle of nowhere, next thing you get a letter from the gemeente - local govt. office - to tell you they are planning the new highway, motorway from Faro to Seville 100 metres at the top thru the front of your garden.......

naah, it aint all of that!

I just mean since I work from home, nuff clients do visit my home office. If it was just me, myself and I in the space then it wouldnt be an issue.

sounds great, to be able to work out of home....

beats having to get up and go to the office

Some enterprising persons have made extenders and sold them on eBay, the buy part of what I suggested.

Now some may be wondering why boosters and extenders are still viable? It is illegal for the manufactures of these devices to make antennas that would cause interference outside of a certain tolerance. It is self evident that a more powerful antenna would have a longer reach and could be harmful to other signals within the same band.

This is OEM try to boost the efficiency of the device in other ways while leaving the strength of the signal and the range issues to the DIY. DIY Signal Boost still carrier a threat of serious sanctions from the FCC in the USA and possibly elsewhere so there needs to be some care taken in how gain is added.

Buying a new router will get you a new, better, more featured router but it may not solve your signal issues because as I said before the OEM has legal constraints within which to operate.

okay, I do understand what you are saying. However, from just the little bit of shopping that I have done, the routers do have a range at least greater than my old one. I know that the router range can only be so far overall, but the ones I read about at least promise to cover 3 floors in a home of a certain size.

My original router had no such range when I purchased it so I am thinking a newer one will provide the adequate range I am looking for.

Note the blurb did not mention a more powerful antenna if they did it would likely cause them headaches with the FCC.
What they have done is to multiply the number of antenna and use software to cause the signal to latch better.
So this is the advantage over the older models, less signal loss, better management firmware and the ability to update the firmware seamlessly.

It will then be your choice but information is key to choosing a newer or an older of vice-versa.

well, I'll look at making a very simple anetenna cause I can be honest and say, all that more complicated stuff I do not have time or patience for, and see if it makes a discernable difference.

If not then purchasing a new one will still offer some improvement.

I'll post how it goes.
