OK sweets, fear not I am here!

Assuming you have XP, Go under:

Statr > All Programs > StartUP folder. Delete anything you dont want in there.

Now this is the Pizza Resistance. Go under:

Start > Run > Type msconfig > OK > click on StartUp tab > Look to the left side of the dialogue box and un-check all that you do not need to start up.
You may have to do it twice after CTRL + ALT + DEL, to bring up Task Manager and shut them down first, if they are in memory and running. Click OK, then reboot PC.

It is the same process as Win-XP.

There is nothing under startup programs.

And when I do the next step, I get this error message:

"cannot find the file 'msconfig' 9or one of it's components) make sure the path and filename are correct"

Try a google on "RegClean" .

You'll find a small tool with which you can clean up your registry.
If there are orphan entrys in there, they should get cleaned up
