deleted site back up!! help

OK I need help...I deleted my old web site in October 2004 but this week I found its back up again..HOW??

I have contacted the host (20megsfree.com) but had no reply yet...I also got the .com people to take down that link but that is also up...I dont understand it and worse thing is people may head for Sea Lawn Coral Beach thinking we are still running it plus its no longer safe there
So can someone help me to take it down permantly

Maybe dem had ah crash or corruption and dem restored dem servers from back-up data.

The way I now it is where ever your web page is hosted from there is directory that contain all the thing that your the web page had.

What you need to do is to locate that directory and delete every thing inside or put a script in there to redirect your customer to the new site.

All web pager or been stored in a directory, so if the directory is not deleted the web page is still active.


You can also delete the things inside the directory but the web page will show nothing but a white back ground.

It will be better to delete the entire directory.

I hope someone will come by and give you easier way to do it.

You have to delete the directory and also check the admin to make sure it is not on a site that caches/mirror the original in case of critical failures.

Try your luck here. They keep archives of most of the sites on the web.If you ahve been around for any length of time. You should be able to find several versions of your site here:

Put in your site name here:

http://www.gigablast.com/

It will allow you to click on a link to older versions of the site.

If that doeesn't work, try going DIRECTLY to the wayback machine and putting in your URL:

http://web.archive.org

I hope it works. I think that if you contact them, they can delete all back ups. Good luck, let me know.

One other thing. If you find the directory where your back up is hosted, put up and index.html file with a Robots metatag Next time the search engine robots come by they will not follow your site links or cache your site pages:

< M E T A NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" >

Leave out the spaces after < and before > and also leave out the spaces in the word meta....the board would not accept the post.

Yup, your site is still there and the last time it was cached was yeasterday.

I went to your contact page and tried to send blank forms and I also typed in numbers where there should only be letters and letters where there should only be numbers and got this error message:

WOW..thanks guys...thats some real Hi tech help from you.
I think I may have found the problems. The .com host had a new server nad accidentally relaunched the site so hoepfully its all sorted now.

That's odd Morpheous, I just tested both scripts and they are working fine. I kept it simple when I designed that form and left out checking field data. It should send anything you enter but I am assuming users will enter asked for info. Anyway I tested with firefox using garbage text and it processed data and emailed it properly. What browser are you using?

That site wont last long anyway, within 6 months I'll be pulling the webhosting and move onto consulting, email hosting, and end user support services. There just isnt much money in webhosting these days. Its about time I re-did that site anyway lol.

I am using firefox...

Here is the link to errors I got. I just tried to submit the form again just now and here is the results to date.

The key is not whether it works on your system/browser but that it works on your visitors browsers.

Ya if ya enter bad data it will crap out. I havent bothered with testing form fields. If they cant enter data that makes sense I don't want to look at it anyway (lol). I would rather they get an error that tells them to fill in a proper email addy vs coding a special error that tells them 'hey stupid, enter a real email addy' (hehe). Its not perfect but it works for my needs.

Actaully I am doing yuh a favour by helping to test the robustness of your forms. Hey listen, I sent you some "valid" data and they went through fine. However the objective must always be to make your forms idiot proof.

By using Javascript to validate your forms on the client-side and ASP or PHP to validate and then process your forms on the server-side. This is good practice because you will always get some visitors that enter information in fields wrongly by mistake.

If they mistakenly leave a field blank your client-side script should pick it up and inform the visitor of the mistake and which form field the mistake is located in. On the server-side with ASP use regular expressions to further validate your form fields and trap errors and return a friendly message/instructions of what the form is expecting the user to enter.

If was a valid and potential paying costumer and I entered wrong information by mistake and I got the 500 error I would assume that your site is not functioning properly and leave the site without returning and you losing potential businesss.

Example not completly idiot proof though but it atleast let the visitors knows what is expected to be entered.

Still mi notice sey nuff web site out there don't bother with web forms no more for this very reason!!! They just have emial address since that will alwasy show the sender's email address etc.

Yeah I know what ya mean. You just want me to work more! That's what you are up to! You noh want old Reby to be thinking of Jamaica slacking off at the office! Its a conspiracy since my boss wants the same thing lol. Well too bad!

When that form was built I was actually just trying to hide my email addy behind a simple script. Now days I run my own mail server so it don't matter anymore. Spam gets eaten by my email server so I don't care where I post my addy's anymore. The old days of using a hotmail acct in public and the isp addy for private email is dead and over (thank god). It makes my day when I get home and check logs on the email server and see line after line of 'connection refused, terminating connection xx.xx.xx.xx' [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

Its a good thing
