I have had a problem in the last few days. I have sent people WORD and Powerpoint attachments via e-mail and when they open them they are COMPLETELY blank. I am going fro Windows 98 to Windows 2000.

Probably a virus scanner at the ISP or mail host. I run my own mail server and sometimes the AV if its not configured properly it will scan the attachment but fail to properly rebuild the mail after scan. It still has the filename attached but it comes thru blank.
This is also why you sometimes get a blank email (AV stripped out the virus and nothing was left but the subject).
All you can really do is contact the postmaster of the mail domain and see what the deal is.

I was thinking about this on the drive home...I should add that it could be a mail client (some clients like outlook express block some attachments but does not sound likely since you get the file but its blank), or it could also be anti-virus on your client's machine or yours.
I'm used to thinking of things server side not client side (hehe)... thought I should mention it.

One way around the attachment stripping or blocking is to ZIP the file and then attach and send it that way.Comment

Reby your first scenario here seemed to be the problem. I was sending the messages out using Incredible Mail. When I sent the same attachments out from webmail on the server, everything worked perfectly. Guess I can't use Incredible Mail when I need to send attachments....too bad really. By the way, someone told me that Incredible Mail piggy backs on Outlook Express. Is that true? I heard Outlook Express has all KINDS of vulnerabilities.Originally posted by Rebycman:
