but 1st things first. We going invite people whe have the iphone over to mek sure we get good signal eena de house.. if the signal isnt good den we haffi pass pon AT&amp;T

Sounds reasonable, but bear in mind. Most people don't realize this because they get rid of their landline phones and use only their wireless phones. But AT&amp;T and probably most carriers do not guarantee service in your home due to landline phones and possible reception blocking. Like trees, mountains, water, big buildings, small residential areas with few towers. IF you can use your phone in your house, it is actually a &quot;bonus&quot;. Mobile phones are just that, for when you are mobile. Someone may not get good service in the house but excellent service when they are out and about. Then they pass up a good opportunity or phone because they can't use it in the house. But if you get a cell phone for mostly home usage, you basically have to flip a coin on that one.

I had a good phone once but I lived near the airport and had to stand outside waving my phone in the air trying to get a good signal. But when I went out, no problem. It was not AT&amp;T's fault, it was where I lived. Also had trees blocking reception in the yard. It all depends on how many towers are in the area and if they are being blocked which causes poor cell phone service. I hope your friends have good signals in your house. I can almost guarantee they have no problems outta road.

The iPhone has many radios within including those that can use the Edge network, the 3G network and your own WiFi connection so using it in your house should not be a problem.

The problem may arise if you spend most of your time out in rural areas that are not covered by a 3G network as this would kind of defeat the purpose for having a phone that takes advantage of having access to a faster wireless network.

You'd be surprised at the number of people who are not in rural areas and complain of not being able to use their iPhone in their home. And sometimes the neighbor across the street or around the corner has full reception with their iPhone. Even with the 3G network and Edge, any phone will not work when there are factors that block reception from coming into the home. Hence the disclaimer that AT&amp;T does not guarantee home service for any phone that we sell. There is the &quot;assumption&quot; that the iPhone will work anywhere but it's not true.

sounds like the iPhone is ready but the AT&amp;T wireless network is not. What is the deal with AT&amp;T in the US not being able to offer tethering anyway? If AT&amp;T wants to be an industry leader in wireless, build out the network to support the demand.

My VZ wireless phone works in all parts of my home, even the basement. If the AT&amp;T network can deliver that, they will probably get more customers.

AT&amp;T does not offer the tethering yet but it is in the works for the near future. The goal is to get back on top as the largest network (in numbers) in wireless after being recently dethroned by Ver with the acquisition of Altel. The number of towers in any given area will most always dictate the level of service/reception one receives from any wireless carrier as long as there are no impeding factors.

As an industry leader, I don't know what will happen with AT&amp;T's status there when Ver comes out with whatever device or software or whatever that Apple is cooking up for them. Ver will want to come up with something to stop their customers from porting over to ATT for the iPhone. AT&amp;T's contract with Apple will soon expire but I think the iPhone will always be the focal highpoint for ATT. Then there's the new mini laptops.

Blackberry vs. iPhone

Why oh why in Gods name does Blackberry have more of the market share than iPhone?

Seriously, why?

I was with one of my managers this week. He was trying to crunch some numbers using the calculator feature on his Blackberry. I had never used a Blackberry before so I was watching him and laughing as he was using the little arrows to navigate the calculator and and then having to press the little round button in the middle to select each number.

I was shocked. Love it or hate it the iPhone's touch screen is light years ahead. I realize some Blackberrys have the touch screen technology now but my God, there is no way in hell I would consider using such an antiquated system as the Blackberry my manager was using, yet Blackberry is the darling of the business world. The only downfall I can see with the iPhone is you need to get it serviced approx every three to four years to change the battery, however with the prices being reduced every year and new features constantly being added, most iPhone users will probably be willing to just purchase a new phone every three or four years anyway.

So with iPhone being able to perform the exact same functions as a Blackberry and it's much more intuitive interface IMHO, as well as a larger screen than the Blackberry, can someone who owns a Blackberry and uses it for business explain why it commands 55% of the business smartphone market, 'cause I must be missing something!

The difference is that the transmission technology that VZ use as against all other wireless systems. VZ uses exclusively tri-mode transmission. In tri-mode, the phone is actually always connect or try to connect to 3 separate transmitters simultaneously. With other system they use maximum of 2 and mostly one transmitter at at time it simply select the strongest transmitter. And this is why they have a greater incidence of dropped calls and dead zones.Ever since Verizon entered the wireless business they have always used tri-mode phones,and that is the reason why they have the best connection record. their system uses code code division. So it is capable of sending much more data over the same bandwidth.
While the technology the others uses requires additional numbers of transmission equipment to be able it achieve the level of connectivity.

The Blackberrry has a lot more business applications than the IPhone. I may be more difficult to navigate to those who are not familiar to it.
but they know their blackberry, and are more likely to stay with the one they know. They don't waht to bother with the learning curve with equipment that still does not offer all the capabillities if the one they know.
As I phone users gets into business applocations in a big way, then they will overtake black berry. That is if blackberry doe not move a fe steps ahead of them at every move.

that's funny you say that Milo because I had a touch screen phone LONG before the iPhone came out. And now I have a Blackberry.

I didnt intend to purchase a blackberry but since I had damaged my previous phone and would have to spend $600 to get another one I didnt bother.

I really liked my UtStarcom that was windows based and allowed me to do EVERYTHING on it like I can on my desktop. I could even edit and create excel spreadsheets on the phone whereas, at the time, this was unheardof on blackberrys and other phones.
However, when Ihad the chance to get a phone similari n features but without the samne business applications available, I specifically didnt want an iPhone because it is touch screen. For work it had its pain the [censored] aspects. So for functionalability I went with a blackberry and I wouldnt &quot;upgrade&quot; to a iPhone at all....at least not with how te iPhone is now.
