USB question

Howdy all.
I'm working with 3 handhelds. Connecting them to my pc, then ActiveSync then download a certain piece of software to all 3 handhelds. The first works fine, no probs. When I connect the 2nd one, I get this error: "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it" Using the same USB cable, I connect the 3rd machine and it too works fine - no errors. Do you think it's the USB port on the 2nd handheld that has issues?

Sounds like you are working with 3 palm pilot's. Let me ask you this, are they all the exact same model/make? Its possible that one of them is different, or has updated firmware. Before you do anything make sure you have the latest drivers from the hardware's website.

If no updates exist: Try updating #1, #3, then plug in #2 to the cradle. Leaving your computer on, pull the USB cable from the PC and give it 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This should make the PC auto-detect the new hardware.

Clearly its not a USB cable issue, but it could still be a cradle issue if the cradle is not compatible with the #2 device. Most likely its a driver issue or the cradle is getting confused when you swap devices (you can test this by rebooting the PC with nothing plugged into the cradle, then after PC boots up plug in device #2 and see if it works).

I always seem to be the one that has to update my Dad's palm, and activesync can be twitchy and unstable at best. Keep at it, you'll sort it out.
