Photo Printing Qwestion...

I don't remember having this problem before with my Epson Printer, which is actually a better quality printer for photo's but right now I'm using a Lexmark scanner/printer machine, as Epson is clogged bad, can't get it to unclog. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

Anyway...

If I resize the photos to 600X450, like for posting on the web, of course it takes out some pixels and the printing is not a quality photo, BUT, if I don't resize the photos, they come out too big and the Lexmark is only printing part of the photo on 8X10. I've looked all over for instructions on how to get them to fit, unless I resize, and can't seem to come up with an answer. Any suggestions?

How about suggestions for unclogging the jets in the Epson? I've used the cleaning utility over and over, and used up both cartriges, no fix. I did learn not to let that happen again, keep the new Lexmark away from the heat and use it often but what about now that the damage is done, Best Buy said they could unclog it, so what do they do? Oh, and one more question....

I bought ink refill kit for the Epson, but wouldn't you know, there is some sort of code that they say I have to purchase so it can tell the printer that the cartrige is not empty, I guess they're programmed in, so the refill didn't work. Grrrrrrr.....

((IM)) I have an Epson C60... and it's been working quite well for the past three years - I don't use the 'refill kit', and have on occasion used the 'KoRecType' brand... and still no problems with clogging.

As for the degradation in the picture quality... sometimes it depends on the software you are using (don't ask me why it just does!

SistahD, that is the same Epson I have, and it printed photos beautifully. But now the jets are clogged, I bought it new ink and went through both cartriges and couldn't get the lines out of the printing, that was an expensive move and didn't do the trick dang it! I'd be so happy to have that printer back in use for photos!

I'm sure the problem I'm having getting photos to fit using the Lexmark is a software something but I can't find it whatever it is. I tell it 8X10, and get part of a photo on the page unless I resize which takes out too many pixels and makes for a crappy end product.

To clean inkjet cartridges I use a paper towel and a bit of water. Pull the cartridge from the printer. On the bottom where the ink comes out its probably all black and gunked up. It gets gunked up because ink gets caught on the printhead and then dust gets in there, or it dries and blocks the head.

Ok so pull out the cartridge, give it a wiggle and make sure you hear ink sloshing around inside (no sense in cleaning an empty cartridge). Take a paper towel and get a corner damp (DAMP not soaking!) and GENTLY pull the paper towel over the bottom print head. NO RUBBING! Just take it easy, and swab over and over until the print head looks clean. That's it, pop it back in and test it out.

I'll give it a try, but I was under the impression my printer problem was in the printer jets or whatever they're called, not the ink, since I bought new ink and still had bad printing, lines on the paper through the subject matter. I'll give it a whirl tomrrow though! Thanks!

Did ya run the printer alignment utility? Most all inkjet printers have a test to correctly align the printhead. Usually you'd want to run this utility every time you remove the cartridges since they are never exact cartridge to cartridge (or even if you pull/check/replace the same cartridge). The utilities/toos are usually in a directory of printer tools under Start > Programs

I'll check that out too Reby, mebbe that's it! It's been sitting for awhile though, so I probably need to get more ink first and such, hopefully that's the solution!
