SPYWARE - HELP!!!

I tried to download a song and got infected with the spyware called COOLWEBSEARCH or CWS

I have tried 5 different kinds of spyware remover and none of them have been succesful in removing it - I even had the IT guy at my job try and he wasn;t successful...

Anyone able to offer any suggestions or assistance?

Hey Jazz..have you tried Spybot - Search & Destroy? I've had the same spying bug and it cleaned it out.

Ivory I don't think I tried that one - was it CWS spyware u had? from what i've heard it is the woprst spyware out there.

Yes, and when you go into my start menu it is still there but spybot has disabled it. It gets re-activated whenever my daughter tries to download from some azlyrics music site.

I was also told if I want to make sure it is completely gone I would need to reinstall my system! Check your favourite list on the toolbar, you will probably also find some new folders created for porn sites. When you look in there, you may see a couple of yellow folders. That is what the virus created. (at least they are yellow on my system)

Try:

Start > Control Panel > Add remove programs > Look for the engine there, and un-install it.

Start > Run > msconfig > Startup > look for engine under "startup items" or "command" and disable it. You may have to do it more than once.

Also do a Ctrl + Alt + Del, (make note of the executable file name) "end the process". Do a search for the EXE file on your hard drive. When you find it delete it.

They can be nasty that's for sure. Another idea is to boot up in Safe Mode (this boots only the core operating system, and should stop it from loading at boot up so you can remove it) and then run the spybot and adaware and then run your anti-virus as well just to be sure (it cant hurt!).

Thank you Ivory, J-kid and Rebycman... Ivory I had tried CWshredder in the past and it basically tod me it did not detect any spyware on my computer... becasue of the spyware i had not connected to the internet for about 2 months - after i connected tonight i connected to cwshredder again and downloaded some upgrades and it seems to have worked!@!!!!! YES!!!!!! HALELUJAH!!!! o/

J-kid - I tried removing it from the programs menu months ago - with no luck - it was waaaay too crafty for that... could not find the msconfig that u directed me to... and I have tried deleting it from the executable files as well as from the registry... truss mi ah nuh yessideh mi ah try get rid ah dis ting and i'm pretty computer literate. Thanks for the response though - I am now a CWS expert! *LOL*

Rebycman - I have run all my 5 spyware programs in regular as well as safe mode as well as my antivirus (antivirus ain;t got crap on this spyware thing)...

But cwshredder finally seems to have worked for me THANK GOD! Thanks for the link will def. check it out!
