Well you can set the filter to strictly ONLY let through certain address that YOU specify. Of course, any other important e-mail that the filter does not recognize will also be blocked.

You could have everything else considered "junk" and dumped into a junk folder, where you can manually scan later for important mail that may have ended up in there.

It needs to be done at the server level. Client filtering can only go so far. I used to get over 200+ emails per day, only about 5-10 were legit, the rest was spam. I setup my own mail portal and I'm down to about 1-2 spam mails a week on my 30 email accounts that I check.

This is exactly why I started my email portal. Ya get what ya pay for and mostly ISP fees are for internet access via their network, email accounts are 'thrown in' so they can compete with other ISP's. Not all ISP's are created equally, some are better than others.

If ya want to learn what kind of things that can and should be done to protect email accounts check my profile homepage. I'm not saying buy my service, but rather read the info I've already laid out so you better know what you need.

I ahve my own website and all my email accounts are linked to it. So I should be able to do the same since it is nobodies ISP, correct?

If you run your own mail server then sure, you can add filters to stop spam and junk from reaching your inbox. I'd suggest the following requirements on any email account:

Reverse DNS/PTR Required
Relay Black Lists (I use 4)
Attachment Filters (I block 24 file types)
Virus Scan
SPF Check
Content Filter or a Bayesian Filter
Blacklisting/Bans by IP/Domain
Whitelisting

Hold/Auto Relase is also cool since I can flag emails I think may be spam. If they arent spam the client/user can unlock them from a holding directory so I don't auto-delete email that the user may in fact want.

I use a product called Mailenable Pro as my email software and MEFilter in conjunction with some other filters I'm not going to share here. (sorry I cant give away all my secrets)....I'm planning on upgrading to Mailenable Enterprise to add some other features but I decided to spend that money on a trip to Jamaica (hehe), I'll get to it sooner or later.

you can mark that particular email as spam and block it.
no big deal.
why yuh noh juss tell di person not to email you?
I'm sure they will oblige.
