Spybot Search and Destroy 1.2

I have been using Spybot search and destroy for over a year now and have noticed that it never has any updates.

I usually scan my hard drive once a week using Spybot Search and Destroy. Before I scan however, I alway check to see if there are any updates to the program. After I press the appropriate button, it always tells me that no newer updates are available. This has been the case over a year now.

Doesn't Spybot update its "free" version of the software?

I also use Adware 6.0 and Microsoft Anti-spyware that they almost always have updates to their programs before I use them. These products are also free.

Does Spybot only update its "paid" version of its software?

That is not an accurate statement. I get Spybot updates all the time. Up to yesterday, I updated the copy on ym daughter's PC. That was installed in December, 2004. Maybe your settings are limiting you.

Yes, the free version updates, that is all I use.

Try re-installing the latest version

Yes, the free version updates, that is all I use.

Try re-installing the latest version [/qb]

The version on my computer was version 1.2. The latest version is version 1.3(as per download.com) so even though I clicked on update everytime I used the old version, it didn't really update the signature files or to the current version.

I just uninstalled the old version 1.2 and downloaded version 1.3

This hopefully will solve my "update" problem.

As long as the definition file continues to update, you should be fine. Version changes do not necessarily mean better, or more, functionality.

That was the problem. My file definitions never updated even though I clicked on "check for updates" everytime I used version 1.2.

Version 1.3 should fix this problem however. I will check this weekend to see if there has been any updates since I installed it last week.

Jammin I suggest you unintsall Spybot and then visit their website.
