My friend knows a lot about computers, I just downloaded a program named Skype. It's like a cell phone but through the internet, as long as you both have computer acess you can talk to one another at no charge. The voice is clearer than the phone! I can't believe it, he is all the way in the islands and it's like he is here.

Try this website www.Skype.com. In order to talk to another person he or she has to be added to your contact list. Oh you will need a microphone. It's like messenger you can type if one party doesn't have a mic.

VOIP has been around for a while.
SKYPE is easier than most.

If you use it all the time you can buy dedicated VOIP handsets that will eliminate the sound card and mic setup.

I was in Indiana and called someone in North Carolina in the mid 90s when I was testing web phone.
I haven't used VOIP in years simply because I have no real friends here and in Jamaica the cost and trouble to be on the Internet has not made is more economical than me calling a person is Jamaica by phone.
