The scroll on my laptop is always crashing causing me to uninstall and reinstall the drivers but as of late I have had to do several reinstalls and reboots in a given crash. Sometimes the reinstall causes the touchpad to stop working altogether and I have no mouse access. What is causing this? Is this a known driver issue? Is there an incompatibility with Vista?

Did you or your system do any kind of driver update recently?

This may also be a conflict with something loading in your start-up list.

Have you tried safe mode to see it it works OK there?

You can disable it an use a mouse only.

or

Go into Mouse tablet setup and give one device priorty over the other.

or update the driver

also check to see if the right and left buttons below the pad are free and not stuck.

If you upgraded from Xp to Vista, yes possible incompatibility. There should be newer drivers, but it depends on how old the unit is. Have you tried cleaning it with a damp paper towel? (Not wet.) Assume you've also done a virus/spyware scan?

Linskinny the computer has Vista as the original OS but now I am pleased to announce I have no viruses (viri?) and I have scoured the internet only to find out that it is a known glitch with the updated version of the driver and was suggested to rollback to an HP version from 2008 which seems to be working fine thus far
