Does anyone own one of these. I just bought one but can't get it to play my .avi movie files, even though d-link claims it does. Other files extensions work, so what's the prob?

Red, I don't have one of those, but try upgrading the firmware, the codec on the unit may not be the latest:
You must be connected to the internet by ethernet cable, located on the rear of the unit.
You may also need to upgrade your Windows Media DRM codec on your source computer. What version of Windows Media do you have on your PC?
You then need to tell the system which files you want it to play:

I did the firmware upgrade, but no luck. I didn't try anything else because I decided to return the unit. Just found out they had an upgraded version dsm-320rd coming out this June. It has a built-in dvd player plus a 5 slot memory card reader and it onyl costs $60.00 more. So, as soon as I get it, I will let you know how it works.
I could always recode the avi to another file type that works, but it's a bit of a hassle. It says it play avi, so just play avi and don't give me a headache. lol!

One more thign I did check about specifying what files to play, but once I upgraded the firmware, that screen no longer showed up.
Overall, it's the best media player out there and I will buy the newer version, you just need some patience.Comment
