What is the best way to wipe your harddrive clean clean clean?

I just found a good deal on a HP laptop tonight at Future Shop and plan to buy it soon.

But I was just wondering about my old laptop and what is the best way to make sure that the data is gone and unrestorable when I decide to get rid of it?

Mi is like yuh. Mi noh too like HP computers. Dem printers alright, but mi noh tink dem mek quality computers, especially di data speed ah dem bussing system.

Pan some ah dem laptop, di DVD drive sound like wen airplane ah tek off.

de way de sony design it is de closest ting tuh a mac (in design) but wi still haffee deal wid de eedyat vista until de upgrade of windows 7 come out.

well everyone seems to have a horror story about each brand b/c I had 2 ppl tell me they are quite happy with the HP.

One IT guy told me about Vosturo (?sp) which is now owned my IBM. He has been selling these computers to customers with good results and he uses them too.
