Re: WINFIX2005 pop up is driving me mad...
At the moment we are just trying to get your PC back up to speed. We will get to the Winfix problem in a moment.
Go ahead and remove the HELLO program from the msconfig startup.
Norton - Are you going in via the Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Norton? If you cant get it to uninstall shut down your pc and reboot and keep hitting F8 until you are promted with a menu - Select 'Safe Mode' and then after it boots up try again to remove Norton in the Add/Remove Programs window. While you are in the Add/Remove window go ahead and also look for Winfixer or WildTangent and remove them too. (After you remove it shut down and reboot).
Ok lets talk about Winfix for a moment. What is happening is it keeps reinstalling itself when its found and removed. I've done a number of google searches and the best fix I've found was here:
You will need to scroll down past the first post to get to the start of the instructions to remove Winfix. I don't want to steal this guy's hard work so I'm linking to his site so he gets the credit, instead of just reposting it here. I don't really need to see your log files, just run thru the guide and don't skip any steps. I warn you now its going to take you a bit so get a cup of coffee. I was praying that the spyware tools would catch it but Winfix is a pain in the butt!
Sorry I know you are on dialup but you will need to do some more downloading.
I'm headed to the office. I'll check in with ya shortly.
