Norton Won't Leave Me Alone

I installed a trial version of NAV and now that it has run out (I have MacAfee) I cannot get rid of it. About 4 times a day a reminder pops up to remind me that I no longer have them. I searched for an uninstall but could not find one. So I did as any normal person would do and started deleting as much Norton as I could ferret out.

But some dll prevented me from deleting Norton. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Now Norton is like a duppy - a poltergiest. Every darn thing I try to do now pops up a Norton error message.

It's going on two years since my Norton expired and I've gotten that window about once a day and I can't get rid of the stupid program either, it's hididng somewhere! Isn't it maddening! :verymad:

((Tigrrr)) do a search through windows explorer for files including NAV (maybe that will help)

Did that. Norton, NAV, Symantec. Never found an uninstall, deleted the ones I could, others would not let me delete them. I need some software to protect me against anti-virus software.

I did stumble on something that (I think) allows me to stop the "buy me" reminders. The doggone thing was set to go off every 4 hours! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] I wanna call Symantec and curse them out because they know that is wrong. I wonder how many people went on and bought the software just to get out of Norton pop-up hell. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

Reby and J-kid and anyone else, I still want to know how to banish Norton from my pc completely.

Did you not try the Uninstall Program from the control panel? That should have gotten rid of most of it.

I don't use Norton anymore because of things like this. Just getting ready for work so I'm not going to go into too much detail atm.

If you already started deleting files/folders the Uninstall probably wouldnt work. You may have to reinstall the demo, then go in and uninstall it via the control panel > Add/Remove Programs.

Been a busy weekend, and 14-15th are ugly for me (time wise) but I'll try and poke around and get ya more details. Could you post which version of Norton you are using so I can find relevant info for ya?

Thank you SisD and thank you Rebycman! It is fixed! Evidently I did not delete to much stuff to be able to uninstall (once you showed me where to find uninstall - XP format is harder for me to find simple things than regular old Windows.)

You all really saved me. I'll have to drop by this Fora more often.
