mekka recap right here. my nayba put im wireless stuiff inna mi computa so i can use im DSL widdout no problem, secure and all dat., Now Bloz she vex, caw she tink a das why demma raise di cable/DSL price, it aint costing me nutn, but i digest.

my question are- do dis mean that my nayba can take set pan my PC and see where i were going on di www? do he able fi get my personal puta file and tings? do he able fi get i keystroke dem wen mi take out di last $5 outta mi checkbook?

No your neighbor cant track your surfing habbits. Nor will he be able to get into your hard drive unless you share files/folders willingly, same goes for the keylogger.

Its really a good way to get cheap broadband net access. Its cheaper for everybody and for the average home user you get all the benefits at half the cost. I've seen lots of home users split out their bills and share one WAP.

If you are paranoid you can always put a software firewall on your PC (Zonealarm comes to mind). I actually suggest you install 3 things on any PC connected to the net:

1) Firewall (Hardware or Software)
2) Anti-Virus (I suggest AVG by grisoft.com)
3) Anti Spyware scanner (I usually use 3 different products, spybot, adaware, and a M$ product)

Tuff, your biggest concern should be, if the wireless access point has been properly secured? Being hard-wired to the router provides you with a certain amount of protection. When you go wireless you lose some of that protection, since you are now transmitting and receiving through the air and can be intercepted, by anyone close enough with the right equiptment and software. Ask your neighbour if he has protected his access point (wireless router) with WEP or MAC security? In this case MAC is the better one.

You also want to make sure that file and printer sharing has been turned off on your PC. Unless your neighbour installed special hidden software on your PC while he was adding the wireless card, I would not be concerned about him directly. If he has not secured the router, then both you and he are vulnerable. The peoducts above that Reby listed, in the majority of cases will normally keep you secure. If you are concern about keylogger software being in your PC, there are free keylogger detector sofrware on the net that you can get to monitor for those, however AVG usually does a good job of looking out for strange stuff like that.

im put on the zone alarm fa mi too, and den im put on supm from yahoo and the microsawf ahm ooh i dont memba, i think it was a firewall too. he said him read some consumer report and them said that the windows one was the best. ey is that grissoft thing free? not to sound grablicious, but ahm where freeniss exiss it is folly to resis [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Oh dear fahda above!!!! u mek mi medulla oblongata hurt me!!! i think is pretty secure cause him have password and thing and he went into ma system and do supm anyhow i will still ask bout the macweb. mi used to try conneck over non-secure wireless but the signal was always iffy and sometime weak, so now with his secure wireless, it not really a problem

Yeah tuff the software I mentioned is all free, but there are restrictions. Mostly you gotta be a home user and not a business to get the free versions. For the average home user those programs will take care of your needs.

Unless you can actually tell us how the wireless connection is setup from your neighbor we really cant say how secure your setup is. Unless you work for the CIA and require all data to be encrypted, I wouldnt worry too much about it [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

All you can do is make sure your equipment is protected by using the firewall, anti-virus, and spyware detection software. For the price you cant beat the alternative (getting your own broadband DSL/Cable connection).
