Re: buying a new laptop
Well the comparison of the 'cache sizes' make the difference.
It does not matter how fast you can scoop, if yuor scoop is much smaller than the other guy.
pentium takes big bites , while celeron and Duron etc take little bitty bites.
So although the cycles are equal the amount of data processed per cycle is different.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: LinSkinny</div><div class="ubbcode-body">What's the model number of the Duo Core processor? I see a lot of the lower priced units going out with celeron and 1.6ghz processors now. There is a noticeable difference in speed between a celeron and a regular processor. The speed is noticeable enough where only the uninformed buy celeron based pcs. Nowadays you need at least a 2ghz cpu and 2gb RAM.
As for buying locally, unless you want to spend 200 bucks more (at least in my experience) nothing wrong with that. Even when you include shipping, it is usually cheaper to mail order. I have to admit though, some of the surplus laptops from CompUsa (Compuseless) have some pretty good prices. But you have to dig a bit to find out the specs. They only tout the good stuff. </div></div>
