Anyone here has experiences with these? My wife's laptop overheats then shuts down. It is one of those desktop replacements laptop (HP Pavilion DV series 17inch) that shuts down when it overheats. We had been using it on a desk for about a year but now use it as a "laptop" (on couches, lap etc). Any recommendation on these laptop fan cooler pads?

Re: Laptop fan cooler pad
I use the same one dat compray have. It was branded Targus when I bought it. It was also the thinnest one that I found (other than the aluminum ones.) It does work based on some of the software utilities that show the temps of various components. I've seen up to 35 degree differences in temps and the laptop fan doesn't work as much. When I bought it, there was a noticeable speed increase in the laptop because it was running cooler. The cooler I have is about 7 or 8 years old now. The wire starting to give trouble. The rubber feet are gone from sitting on my lap. They deteriorate after a while and make a black mess over everything. I'm looking for another one with usb ports. It's interesting how you miss the one usb port when the current laptop don't have as many ports as previous laptops.
ps - you can also clean out the vents and if you handy, take off the keyboard and clean out the air passeges. A lot of dust builds up. Also check the forums for the particular laptop and you might find step by step instructions on how to replace the heat compound for the heat sink. This also dries up after a while. You can get the compound at any electronics store.
