All in ones are de rigueur this season. Everyone has one, and Numark are about to bring you another. Looking like an NS7 for the rest of us, MIXDECK is about as all in one as you get, playing just about every format you can think of, including CDs and iPods.
NUMARK INTRODUCES MIXDECK UNIVERSAL DJ SYSTEM
Complete DJ Device Plays From CD, MP3, USB, iPod and Controls Software
Cumberland, R.I. (Jan. 14, 2010) – Numark, the world’s leading manufacturer of DJ technology, announces MIXDECK, a complete system for every DJ who blends different kinds of music formats. Whether the DJ’s music is on CDs, MP3 CDs, USB flash drives, iPod, their computer, or even other analog players, they can mix and perform with it all using MIXDECK. Numark will introduce MIXDECK at the 2010 Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, booth 6400, January 14–17.
MIXDECK has two large, touch-sensitive illuminated platters and controls for cueing and scratching. Each smooth, fast, reliable, slot-loading drive works with both CDs and MP3 CDs. DJs can also connect a USB flash drive on each deck for access to thousands of MP3s without taking a computer or CDs to the gig. But these advanced decks aren’t just MP3/CD players – they also work as software controllers. DJs simply connect MIXDECK to their Mac or PC with a single USB cable and they can control the music on their computer using the included Native Instruments Traktor Numark Edition software. MIXDECK’s USB connection can also receive two stereo audio channels from the computer, empowering DJs to mix software audio with CD tracks.
MIXDECK’s advanced platters are touch-sensitive for superb accuracy and smooth control of tracks on discs, flash drives, and software. On top of playing all kinds of music media, each one of MIXDECK’s decks enables DJs to add flavor to their performances with integrated, beat-synced DSP effects that include chop, echo, filter, flanger, pan, and phaser.
MIXDECK has an integrated Universal Dock for iPod so DJs can play tracks from their iPod and record their set into the popular portable music device. MIXDECK has a dedicated iPod fader, physical transport and menu controls, and click knob.
MIXDECK has a full-featured mixer built in. Each input channel has its own gain and three-band EQ/rotary kills. The mixer channels control the audio from MIXDECK’s onboard players, incoming audio from a computer or external sources such as turntables, MP3s players and more.
“MIXDECK gives DJs the ability to perform, mix, remix, and record with virtually any popular music media,” said Chris Roman, Product Development Manager, Numark.
MIXDECK will be available in Q1 2010.
Now, while this looks like a regular CD/mixer setup, it can also work with external sources. So you could wrap a pair of decks around this and have CD, vinyl and MP3 playing through the same unit. It's also very specifically a Traktor controller, thus all the controls are MIDI mappable too and indeed comes with a specifically tailored version. I'm not especially convinced about the inclusion of the iPod dock as it lacks pitch control, but I'm sure that aside from recording, some creative users will make merry with its inclusion.
Overall it looks like a very versatile jack of all trades, reminiscent of a pair of iCDXs in a new box. It certainly looks capable and probably cost effective as well. No word on price but hitting the streets soon.
And is it just me, or would this have way more kerb appeal it it was all black? Just a thought...
