Cant set my Out of Office Reply

I am using 2007 Outlook.

I have created a rule from long ago to be used for when I am away. However I am not trying to edit the rule but I cant get very far.

When I apply my changes in the Rules box I get an error saying

<span style="font-weight: bold">A value in the Rule Description box was not set.
To set a value click underlined words in Rules description area.</span>

done this and still nuttin. I cant figure why it wont set up properly

dont understand jthe rule thing...

go into out of office assistance. type your away message click i am out of the office and you should be good.

I thought I could do that too but I checked on Microsoft's site and only if you run Microsoft Exchange Server to you have the &quot;Out of Office Assistant&quot; option.

everyone else has to set up a rule to achieve the same effect.

I am gonna bug one of my friends. She should be able to let me know what I am doing wrong. I am sure it is something obvious I am missing.

Outlook can do multiple accounts. If you're hooked up to a corporate network, that's where you need the exchange server. You can also do pop accounts, like gmail, and the paid version of yahoo. Do you know what your email is using?

I work for myself from home so no need for a corp network.
my work email is my domain name that I purchased gmail I can set up a vacation reply thru their site n bypass outlook. It is the work stuff I am most concerned with.

In that case, check with the domain support desk to see what they support. Some providers are better than others and will provide the tools like google to setup the automated reply. Others will not and that's where you have to decide to upgrade or not.

so, then the ppl you purchased your domain from, say for instance 6cows.com, you could go to their server where you link your outlook to, to draw down your emails and set it from there.

i didnt get a chance to go thru my provider before leaving and now I simply dont care

LinSkinny, I do have my blackberry with me but I will not pay overseas roaming charges just to cehck emails that I really shouldnt be reading in the first place
