Annoying problem with IE and Microsoft Office 2000

I have been having this annoying problem with IE(and IE based browsers) that whenever I go to websites that have a lot of popups(including Jamaicans.com), a prompt comes up from Microsoft wanting me to insert the installation disk for MS Office 2000. When I "click off" the prompt, it comes up another 3 or 4 more times until it finally goes away.

I have had MS Office 2000 on my computer for a few years and this "problem" just started to occur a few months ago.

This only happens with IE based browsers, ie not with. Firefox, Netscape and Opera browsers.

Any way to fix this?

De wifey still insists on IE and sometimes, certain websites do not display properly with Firefox so I still need to use IE.

Well that's not good. If you must use IE then get a popup blocker, anti-virus, firewall, and spyware/adware scanner. Really though any pc connected to the net should already have these installed.

I wouldnt stick in the Office CD unless you know what its doing. Anytime a unexpected popup appears assume its a scam/ad and use caution.

While fooling around with the options in Internet Explorer, I have found a "temporary fix" to my problem.

Whenever I "disable" the ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer, I do no longer get the Microsoft Office popup that happens when I visit a couple of websites that includes Jamaicans.com.

The downside to this however I that I cannot properly use certain websites that requires the use of ActiveX controls such as as http://www.backayardtv.com/ and others. This is the same problem I have with Firefox.

I have since found a permanent fix to this problem.

An oversight on my part. After carefully reviewing the error prompts again, it mentioned Error Code 1706. I did a google search on this error code and it came back as a known Microsoft Office 2000 problem.

Solution. Just placed my office CD and whalla, the problem disappeared. It kinda weird that I have had MS Office 2000 for over 3 years on my computer and it was just within the past few months the problem started.

All fixed however.
