I'm trying to load a program off of a cd and I get this message.

What is dis <font color="red">DAO</font> business?

I've done everything I can think of, from close everything to restart to tunn off everything in <font color="green">msconfig </font>

Another program I tried to tek off of a cd and it tell me it cyaan dweet cause my system hasn't been modified yet.

What is dat and how do I do it?

I am not sure but I think DAO has something to do with visual basic. Maybe Reby or someone else may have a little more insight into this area:

As for removing the CD issue, give us some more details. I dont quite understand what you were trying to do. What individual steps did you take, and what was the result of that process? What is your ultimate objective?

Not trying to remove a cd.
Trying to load a program off of a cd, it's a program for mapping out routes. Microsoft streets and maps I think it's called.

Just want to load it on my laptop.

I'm now wondering If I should recover the whole thing (recover disc) and start from scratch.

Soh when yuh put the CD in and click on the "setup.exe" file it soes not go through the install process at all? Does the install shield come up at all?

yes it begins to install how ever slow and then it comes up witht the system is not modified ting.

I don't have to click setup it starts all on its own.

Yuh kno I am running into a "Locked drive" issue right now on my Windows SP2 system. I have not figured out yet what is up with dat, because the drive is not locked in my BIOS. Right now, it is preventing me from partitioning my drive.

Ok couple questions, do you have Microsoft Office installed? Does this computer have an ATI video card? I've seen this error be caused by ATI video drivers (required for MMC). Go in and check your add/remove programs and see if Microsoft DAO is listed, if it is go ahead and uninstall it. If it isnt listed and if you have Microsoft Office installed you will have to uninstall/reinstall Office to fix....but before you try it answer my above questions first and get back to me.

In short, DAO is an API designed to allow apps to get data out of .MDB files quickly. It sounds like maybe some Microsoft app is having trouble shutting down. Do you have MSOffice on a separate CD? Can you run the repair function on Office from Add/Remove Programs?
