Can't Installl Office 2003 Professional.

A friend of mine sent me this HELP request:

"I have been trying to install these files but I keep gettign error messages: <font color="red"> "Error 1919, ODC Database etc etc" </font>. I googled and tried to follow the directions but I have no fil mdac-inf. I tried the 'workaround' option, no dice."
I gave some suggestions, however, thought I would throw it out to you guys for some input.

Hmm What OS is he trying to install it on? The 2 types of errors I've seen are caused by either warez version, or trying to use an older version of office on XP (XP only likes to work with Office XP from my experience).

Yes, the person has Admin rights. Yes it is a new copy and NOT a wearz copy (dat was di first ting mi ask), nor older office. From what I gather it is one of those group licenses that employees purchased at redused cost. I have one of those empoyee's originals, through my job, and had NO problem installing it on my home PC. Sound like it may be searching for that missing component?

Title: Error 1919 ODBC Database

I removed word perfect office from my computer and lost the ODBC keys necessary to get e-mail from MS outlook or to run windows installer. I have tried the MS page to correct the problem to no avail. I have copied the reg files from my wife's computer and imported them to mine, to no avail. What do I need to do so I can reinstall office 2000? I am running xp home edition with sp2 installed.

If you're sure it's ODBC related (Never heard of this with Email like that), you might try reinstalling MDAC - http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downl...ault.aspx#MDAC

iF YOU KNOW the file that is missing.,just go to windows update and put it in the search box and justv download it and then install it.
I did that after I removed some software that removed files I needed to run other files and it work fine.
I just go to wnidows update,and type in the file,then download and install it amd i loaded the software I wanted to install,and it work.

I got a response back from my friend that the software is now installed thanks to JA.com's help (SEE BELOW):



I went thru the sites posted. Thing is, I checked them before and they kept referring me to an mdac.inffile which is not on my system.
I had mdac and mdac.pnf but no mdac.inf

drshdw1, that DSN notice is because Windowblinds wants to use jet databasing, and whether azdruid used proper english or not, his advice is correct. If his english was too much to handle, here it is in American and outlined:

You'll need the Windows XP setup disc, aka installation disc.
1. Insert the Windows XP setup disc.
2. Double-click "My Computer".
3. Double-click on your CD-ROM drive.
4. Double-click on "i386" folder.
5. Scroll through this folder until you find "MDAC.IN_" file.
6. Right-click and select "copy" or you can drag-and-drop it to your desktop.
7. Click on "Start" menu.
8. Click on "Run".
9. Type "cmd", hit enter.
You now have a DOS window:
10. Type "cd desktop".
11. Type "expand MDAC.IN_ MDAC.INF".
A new file will appear on your Desktop.
12. Right-click on the "MDAC.INF" on your desktop.
13. Select "install".
You will have a box appear.
14. Click "Browse".
15. Navigate to your CD-ROM drive with the Windows XP CD still inserted.
16. Double-click the "i386" folder.
17. Double-click the "ADCJAVAS.INC" file.
The file needed has now been chosen.

All this time, I was still trying to install as an “upgrade”. I got fed-up and installed “custom” instead and the next thing I know, the ridiculous pop up not. Did appeared.

Not sure if it went because of the Office XP Pro CD or the custom install. Fact is, it went!!
