I Love the iPad ...BUT...

... I just can't warrant spending a few hundred dollars on what is essentially a "toy" at this time. Especially when it is obvious to me that there will be so many improvements over this first generation model over the next few years.

The timing is a bit strange as well. As we emerge from the great recession, most people are hanging on to their cash. Spending a chunk of money on non-essential items right now is simply not an option. Sure there will be those who line up to get it first but in the long run I think Apple may be disappointed in the sale of this device.

The fact that it is not Flash compatible, uses the iPhone operating system instead of the far superior OSX operating system that comes with Apple computers, has no USB ports and has a high gloss screen (good luck trying to read a book outside in the day time with this thing) really makes me shake my head.

IMHO Apple released this thing just to divert people away from devices like the Kindle, and while it blows the Kindle out of the water in many ways it is still a product that was released without enough though put into it.

well yeh, of course. this is true for any new pieca technology. i always SMDH when they show on the news all them gullible ppl lining up hours in advance for any new tech-toy and spening huge money just so they can have it &quot;first&quot; and be trendy.

in 6 months 10 bugs will have been fixed and it'll be half the cost .... just like all new stuff they come out with.

A friend on an art site has been playing with is all day between him and his son and after 5 1/2 hours still has 60% battery life. They are loving it and say it is lightning fast.

I'm sure it will be better in 6 months, and that is about when I will prolly want to buy one. Heck, I wish I had one now. I can see it as a valuable tool to carry portfolios around and such.

The part about no camera, that wouldn't bother me as I have a few good cameras already. I can see why skype peeps would love to have the video capability though.

The no flash player is the thing that gets me so far. Otherwise I wish I had one now!

what I like about it, should the schools catch up with the technology.. is the ability to get downloadable textbooks where and prolly an app where they can download hw assignments.

They would be able to access websites for projects during the schoolday &amp; such.

Write their assignments on the pad &amp; 'hand them in' electronically.

Now that would make the ipad ah we so me

the website for h/w, projects, real time grade access, etc. turning in assignments electronically mi talking.
dem do that already weh mi is...which is why hand dem a itch fi work since mi been off

*I* know that but was putting the full educational benefit on there. At the HS level I am sure it is the norm but in miggle school and below it is print &amp; hand in still

Yes, for an additional charge you can get a keyboard which operates via blue tooth. No need for USB.

Apparently Apple is counting on html5 to soon become available which will get rid of the need for Flash. That is the main reason they did not approach Adobe to discuss incorporating Flash with this product.
