Burning/copying to DVD-RW

I have some tv programmes on my computer saved in .rar, divx, etc that I want to move onto DVDs. I've been wary of trying it as I've only just managed to copy pictures onto CDs [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Is it just a simple matter of click and drag or do I need to 'format' the dvd disk first? Is burning the same as copying? Also, what's with the various DVD speeds? I have some 4x and some 16x disks. Can I assume the 16x 'moves' quicker than the 4x? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70392-silly.gif[/img]

Did you record these programs yourself?

First of all rar, is a compression format. I need to know what extension is in the archive? Example: wmv, mov, etc.

What is your ultimate objective? Are you interested in just moving the files to DVD for storage and playing on your PC only, or do you want to play them from the DVD disk in your stand alone DVD player through your TV set?

I wil give you more specifics when you return. You also need to check for me, if you have Nero Burning Rom or just the basic Nero express installed?

J-Kid the extension is .divx (divx video file) and I have Nero 6 Ultra Edition which includes Nero burning rom, backitup, express, cover designer, imagetrax, and one or two others.

The other tv programmes have different extensions eg xvid-lol.avi (or maybe .avi is the extension? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70392-silly.gif[/img]

First of all you need to un-rar the arvhive with a program called WinRAR, to an empty folder.

Start up Nero Burning Rom, and insert a blank DVD minus or plus disk in your DVD burner. I am assuning that you have a DVD burner an NOT just a player (it is NOT the same thing as a CD burner)? Select DVD from the upper left hane window. It willdefault to DVD-ROM (ISO). Click on NEW button. Select the drive and location(s) of the files you want to burn in the file browser window. You can select multiple files by holding down the ctrl key. Drag the files to the ISO window with the picture of the little silver disk. Repeat for each folder location you want. Select Recorder > Burn compilation, or the disk icon with the burning match stick. Make sure write box is checked, then click on the BURN button. Also make sure, "verify written data" is checked. When the process is complete press the DONE button.
