WHOOPS! How can I fix this one???

I don't even know how it happened. I've been working hard on cleaning up photo files, I gotta do something this thing is barely limping along.

Somehow, I ended up with a hundred or two photo files in a folder in my bookmarks. I can't figure out how to put it back into 'My Pictures'. Actually I can't seem to do anything with them except open them one at a time, there isn't even an option for going from picture to picture, it is just open one, close it open a next one and so on. Grrrrr....

What I didn't try was to delete the files and then retrieve it from the recycle bin, that seems scarey, there must be a better way!

What are the files extensions? Are these http/html links, or actual files? You mention bookmarks, which makes me more curious.

Marnin J-Kind, there is a folder symbol, then it says Index Of File:///C:/Documents and Setting..

So if I hold my cursor over it the lang lang list of photo files comes up (Jpeg), and they open in the browser window.

Wierd, I don't know how it happened and I sure as heck don't know how to put them back! leave it to me to do something like that, heheh...

If I open my photos from the Camera/Editing Program, the pics open from that program.

If I open them from the folder in My Documents, they open in the browser window.

I have XP windows, but the photos are not in 'my Pictures' anymore, they moved themselves to my bookmarks! It's a mystery!

Nanook, are you saying that you cant just use a file manager and move the jpeg files back to your "My Pictures" folder? If they are physical files and not links, you should be able to just move them, or copy them and delete the originals. From all I can see the files are in your "Documents and Settings" folder. I am still having a little trouble fully understanding the scope of the problem, from the slightly abstract info have been provided so far. Give me more details.

J-Kid, I can only open one at a time, there are a couple hundred. They're not in my documents, but they used to be in 'My Pictures'.Now they open in a browser window. I was hoping there was a way to move them without doing one at a time.

I'm scrambling to get this old computer to run better. I have fragmented files that a defrag can't fix. 26% free space so it should go better than it is. Deleting instant messenger has helped, that really slowed it down; I now notice how much.

But ok, what to do about so many files that a defrag can't fix? The seem to be in 'My Pictures', so if I get the pictures off will that help? or shoudl 26% free space be enough?

Whichever folder they now reside in, use your CD burning software (Nero or any other) and burn the photos on to a CD disk. After that delete them completely from your hard drive.

Well, 26% of what? It all depends on how much space you had to begin with. You should give Windows as much virtual memory (space on hard drive) to work with as you can afford. Usually about two times the size of your actual RAM value. How much RAM do you have?

If you can only see one photo photo at a time, and they keep opening in the browser, then you may need to re-configure the "Open With" software to use your photo viewer that allows you to see multiple thumbnails instead of just one at a time.

Also clean up your caches and temporary files that are stored on your HD. Run Check disk error checking. Update and run your Virus Scanner software, Spybot, and Ad-Aware.

Sounds like they were just moved to me. Have you gone to Start > Programs > Blah (Image folder) then right click on Blan and select Open. From here just highlight all your images and right click > Cut then go to your photo directory and right click > Paste.

You can find the favorites here:
C:\Documents and Settings\$User Name$\Favorites\Links

Substitute $user name$ for whichever account's favorites the photos are in.

Thank for trying Reby, the list of photos in the folder is 100 or 200 long, and it won't let me highlight any of them, and I don't see any option cept for what is under File in the top of the browser window. I guess I should just be glad they didn't altogether disappear and resign myself to opening them one at a time and moving them. I can't burn them cause my CD burner nah work all of a sudden either. It keeps telling me to insret a blank CD but I already have one in there. I've tried repairs and reinstall to no avail, I think I'm sorta screwed here! Grrr...

Do you have an external CD-burner or hard drive you can use? Also make sure your Drive letters are pointing correctly.

Well once you are in the folder just hit Ctrl A to select all then Ctrl C to copy, (or Ctrl X (Cut)) then go to your photo directory (where you want them to be) and Ctrl V to paste. Or you tried copy/cut/paste yet by shortcuts?
