Facebook security, better than you'd think!

A friend had a computer crash and is going away for the weekend so she asked me if I would go to Fishville (yeah, I know...) and sell off their fish so they don't die. I know they are just cyber fish but they die if you don't take care of them.

So, she wrote down the Facebook log in info for both her and her fiance in order for me to do this, and away I went.

Well, I was able to get into her account and do the deeds, but when it came time to get into his? Not a chance.

The message was 'you are trying to access your account from a location other than your usual' or something to that effect. Then it brought up a series of photographs. I was supposed to name the persons highlighted in the photographs to prove I was actually him.

I flunked.

I figured I would try again and got the message that you only get one failed attempt in a hour.

Anyway, I tried again this morning. Same scenario! I guess Evan's fish are going to die but I tried!

The morrow of the story is I was pleasantly surprised at the security blocks which were put before me. After Evan finishes mourning his dead fish, he will probably be glad about it too!

Their security check relies on the computer cookie settings. I have my browser set to clear all history and temp files, plus I frequently run CCleaner to clear all system, temp, data dump, dat files, etc from my laptop. Because I do this, the rare occasion I decide to use Facebook, I get locked out. But I figured how systematic fb system is and the various security walk through steps it'll take you through, the ones that are flawed and the only one that actually worked.

It is not an efficient security system; in your case even if you entered the names correctly to match the persons highlighted in the photo it still will NOT accept it. Their other flawed security is it ask you to type names of people on your friends list and even if you entered a name that is on your friends list it does NOT accept.

The only security access that work is where it ask you to validate yourself by entering your birth date mm yy dd to prove security access. That works and it lets you in immediately once entered correctly.

After not using my fb for several months I went through same scenario as you did Nanook. After much frustration I tried another day and that time it ask for my birthdate and I was able to get access. So you know what happened, after I ran my ccleaner on my laptop - I am again shut out of fb.

Nanook, I noticed that a couple weeks ago when we were away in the US. Usually I can access my account from wherever, however when my niece wanted to check her FB using my laptop, she got the same message and had to prove who she was.

Interesting. Glad to know I'm not the only one! Sandi, That is a lot to go through! I'm glad I gave up early.
