Can I Split a USB signal

my dj mixer has a usb b female out.
I want to split that signal to two laptops.
I can find switches but mi nuh tink a switch would work cause it would interrupt the signal to one of the laptops.
Hubs I found keep only having multiple usb A types on them and I need B.

I think you meant you want USB type-A Female connectors, not type-B? If that is the case USB hubs are possible solution?

The answer is yes, to your question, since we are only talking about two components. Each component should have its own address.

However, your problem may end up being more power load, not signal. You may need an external power supply to compensate.

If I mis-read yout intent, please clarify further, because it would seem an HUB is what you would need, or a "Y" adapter?

digital information comes out of the mixer to the laptop and audio comes back to the mixer from the laptop, then that same audio goes out the mixer to the amp and/or speakers.

Why cant you jus use a 2-port data USB hub, wid ah single A-female to B-male cable attached to di single side of HUB (for mixer connection), den pan di multi plug side ah di HUB use two A-male to A-male cables, plugged into two of the HUB ports (to laptops connections)?

Soh in odda wuds, yuh would buy one hub, an three cables.

AFAIK, the usb specs do not allow splitting of the signal like that. It would violate the device id specs on the chain. Gimme a bit and I'll look up some of the specs to be sure.

it may not work because the two laptops may be asking for info from the mixer at the same time messing up the signal.


hope it does though. There must be a reason no one is designing a cable that can do this. Unless the engineer in me is forward think pan a different level

If using a y-adapter (not the earlier kind i mentioned, because one plug was power only. Both must have the data pins present):

Unplug one of the USB powered device then power up yuh system, and re-plug in di second turn table. That is why I recommended a USB hub.
In other words, dont turn the system on with both turntables plugged in, if you are going to use a DATA-and-power, y-adapter.
However, if yuh use a regular HUB it should tek care ah all dis fi yuh.

Mi nuh figet you. Doing a refresher class and was up to mi neck in <span style="font-style: italic">manual</span> binary conversions and subnets. Mi can do binary conversions ina mi head now. The subnet ting still confusing, but dat's why I been using calculators fi years. Ah quick look and I can't find the paper I was looking for on the usb, but I remember it describing how the devices actually connect. I was looking at the usb info from their website, but there are lots of pdfs to wade through and I have to work on some other stuff.

What you need USB the Y adapter That JKidd posted then 2 adopters to join tge regular YSB cables.
then you have to make sure it is USB2, or the data stream will nit be enough for

What's the brand/model of the mixer. I want to take a peek at the specs. You may not be able to do what you want based on what I know about usb, but I know some devices have different capabilities. PM me the brand/model if you want.

Here is what I really want to happen.
Two turntable have nothing to do with it as they are patched into the mixer. I use a dj software called Traktor Scratch Pro. I'll describe in deatail how dis wukk, as it may mek unno see wah mi really a duh here

In this software below, deck A is turntable 1 (they are linked together) what ever I do on turntable 1 happens in deck A

Deck B is obviously turntable 2.








OK as it is this software comes with digitally encoded records. No music digital information called DVS (digital vinyl system) When you play there records (I'll post a youtube video as well) the digital infor goes into the laptop and out of the laptop comes your mp3's, WAV, flac (whicheva format you have your music saved on) into the mixer as AUDIO and then the mixer outputs the audio to your amp and speakers.

So you can manipulate your digital music in your pc/mac just as if it were a real records, especially if you can get your latency settings nice and low.

What this has done for me is made me able to stop carrying many crates of records where ever I go cause now all music is in de laptop. I can create crates of music within the software and gwaan same way as before without all the baggage. Other dj's who played cd's now don't have to carry books and books a cd's and spread them all over the table. Everything is now in one place. It's so much easier to do my radio show now cause of this.

ANYHOW!

<span style="color: #000099">If two of us are dj'n with the same software I have my laptop full of music and he has his. I want to be able to switch dj's. So I'd play my set and when mi done he'd come on from his laptop and continue playing. So both laptops would not be in use at the same time.
BUT my mixer also controls the software so that I don't have to touch the laptop. I can scroll through tracks, choose tracks, load tracks and play without ever having to touch the laptop. Problem is if I disconnect the laptop from the mixer (which is what a switch would do) the mixer cannot control the software anymore and I have to reboot the software.
