I think I need to call in the experts

Here is the deal. I have VZ Fios with a router that used to be in the home office.

We added equipment and I thought it would be a good idea to use ethernet cables for the equipment.

Called to add new set top boxes and wiring to go with it/as said equipment supports internet, added an ethernet cable to go with it too.



VZ guy comes.. says he can connect the coax no problem. Ethernet will be a challenge as its cables have to come from the router. Too much trouble to run physical wire between downstairs & upstairs so he suggest move router downstairs, then use wireless range expander to connect to wireless devices upstairs. Fios guy also said with the router downstairs I would have connectivity outside on the deck.

Ok deal done
Router is downstairs; wireless range expander upstairs (which was a beast to install btw)
Wireless connectivity upstairs is USELESS
Wireless connectivity outside is USELESS



In my perfect world I would like the wireless router back where it was as I had good connectivity upstairs and around the house; I would like the ethernet connectivity to the devices downstairs and I would like it all to run on w/o dropped signals.

What can I do to fix this

We have VZ fios as well. We eventually set up two wireless routers to overcome this problem.

Doan aks mi any more about what was done to accomplish the above and Mr. PZ not here to answer wat di baxide him did do to mek it so .

2 wireless routers you say?

But I thought you cannot connect router to router

He made a enormous error When he recommended s reduction in the height to increase range
If you want to increase range you raise the transmitter.
That is why they always place transmitters on high places.

mi tink soh, but mi doan know

Here's what mi know. Mi have two wireless signal in mi house, say, PeasHouse1 and PeasHouse2. And is two router caw when mi nuh get one signal, mi goh ovah deh an reset ie.

Oh and I have an iPort so I get chree wireless signal.

I know that and said so to the guy which is y he recommended the range expander

but thinking on what peasie said..

What I have upstairs is an 8port switch where I have ethernet connections (VoIP box, printer, solar panel data logger, etc)... can I connect a wireless router directly to the switch?

Is it a straightforward thing or do I have to have a separate name for it probably separate name

You will have to create a local area network.

Since FiOS does not use a LAN normally.

They treat each computer as an individual unit.

what?

Each computer on the LAN connected through the router has its own ip address

The normal LAN setup use one Ip address and That one have to be on for the others to go on line.

Sorry, mi neva get back home til bout 12:30am, Summertime yuh noh. Ah shoot di breeze an enjoy di weda.

Anyway, fus try changing di Wi-Fi Channel Number to Avoid Interference wid odda appliance dat may bi on dat same frequency range. Dat can improve yuh signal sometimes.

Now, mi ah goh grab suppen fi nyam!

Wireless Access Point



Instructions are lacking but thanks to someones comment I was able to figure it out

1)per instructions - connect WAP to a Windows based laptop ; change TCP/IP to a specific address

Log een to web access to the WAP -
select mode - Wireless Access Point
set ssid and access
dhcp settings - this is where it was lacking -- <span style="font-weight: bold">set to automatic</span>
unplug from pc; plug into 8port switch and
WIYALESS
