I purchased a Hawking G wireless router and adapter.

Trying to hook it up, having some difficulties and their tech support line is worse than awful. Hopefully JA.com will come to the rescue...again. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I have cable internet with a motorola modem. That works fine. When I connect the router to the modem and the computer, I loose my internet connection. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

did you install all the software that came with the router?
For me it was easy to hook it up, but I had to call customer service when it came to securing it with a MAC setting suh dat oddaz cyaan get in.

are all connections in de right place?

You have bought a wireless router.. are you trying to connect via the router using a cat 5 or 6 cable or in a wireless mode ?

is the cable modem connected to the port in the router called 'wan'?

and is the cable between the router & computer connected to the router at one of the available ports?

are you using cat 5 or cat 6 cable and not crossover cable in any of the connections?

If you are trying to connect wirelessly? is the wireless card on the computer enabled so that it may look for a connection?

Edited to add 1 more question. Is the router you purchased on the list of compatible routers for your cable internet company?

Me double, triple and quadruple check di connections dem. All di lights dem a flash pon di router, dat mean everyting ready fi go.

Yes, Port 4

Me nuh know, di cable dat come wid di router have cat 5 mark on it. But di cable dat runs from di router to the modem is blue and it nuh have nutten mark on it. Di cat 5 cable is running from the computer to router.

If you are trying to connect wirelessly? is the wireless card on the computer enabled so that it may look for a connection?

No, me nuh reach dat far yet. My puter is the 'home' computer. Me just a try set up di router fuss.

Edited to add 1 more question. Is the router you purchased on the list of compatible routers for your cable internet company? Well inna di router package dem seh dem compatible wid Comcast.

Kia, me wi check your responses in the morning.

Me deh yah a look pon di manual and dem have whole heap a tings me might need fi do fi reconfigure. But reading it pon di screen a annoy me, so me gwine print ie out at work tomorrow [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img], all 95 pages a di manual.

did u renew the ip address after you connected it to the router? (ie ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew)

or rebooted the pc (which would renew the ip connections)?

can u reach the router admin page (it is usually something like http://192.168.0.1 or sinting like dat)when connected?

I got my broadband and hooked up a wireless network to it... I tried for two days to get the wireless working and competely failed. (called the broad band provider they didnt help, called the computer company they blamed every one else)called the wireless helpline they were about to give upafter two hours then solved it. The router was working when connected by cable to the computer. but not wireless.. What happened was the Wireless router reset the security code randomly.. It asked for the security code.

I put in the one that I had given it but it did not give a message that it did not give a error message and went to the next stage of the set up...Now it is working fine.. So check that the router has not simply reset the security code randomly...

I am going to get a seacond computer so I wonder if this will be a problem when I come to set it up...

It should not be hard to connect, but a linksys, SMC or D-Link would be more user friendly.

What operating system are you using?

<ul type="square">[*]Generally you power on your cable modem.
You connect only the cable from the modem to the router while it is powered off.[*]Connect now other cables.[*]Power the router on, so that is can read the addresses from the Modem.
If you miss this step you will have to connect the computer, log into the router and have it update the addresses.[*]As Kia said you log in to the router.
You tell the router to use DHCP ("Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol").
When that happens you also tell the router to also clone the MAC address of the modem because some system require that you use their hardware and will check for the Mac Address during the negotiations.[*]Finally you tell your computer to use DCHP.[/list]

Those are general guidelines that will help you track you problems down

mi like this topic cause mi lazy nephew want to hook up pan mi computer and mi tell him no.
It dont look like hook ups work
