mi using a Dell XPS dat is brandnew....is a desktop....mi juss stawt use it Friday...likkle while it go crazy wid di internet explorer screen popping up til dem numbered 55 so me reboot...it would not stop so mi shut awf di sinting an wen it come bak up mi could not get online....message bout no modem...mi cawl Dell an dem had mi open it up an press di modem fi mek it kick bak een....awrite mi know mi not technical but dem tell me how fi open up di sinting cause it is new veddy compact one an it ha lever whe mek di bak pop off...dem tell mi fi look nex to di whole heap a multicolour cable till me see a likkle rectangle marked 'press modem' an mi do dat an it is working now

di lady tell me dat while it is unusual fi a brand new sinting fi ha di modem stop work it can happen as obviously it did ...should i return it fi anodda one...i am jamaican enuff fi feel seh if new sinting go bad three days afta it stawt use, is dunghill all di way...ordered it on April 2 and Dell shipped all the components by Friday , put it togedda Friday evening.....so would u keep it or sen it bak fi anodda one....seriously [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]mi no kip it an den if it go bad dem tell me seh is someting me do di longa mi ha it

Well fus mi questions:

1) How long dem give yuh before yuh can return it? Yuh already on record as having called them with issues, soh noh worry bout sending it back within the allowed period.

2) When the multiple-Explorer windows popped up were they of actual web sites or just (blank) browser error screens?

3) How is the PC working now?

4) How is the performance?

5) Does all the other software seem to work OK?

6) What do you have your browser home-page set to?


I personally would test it out for a little while to see if it was just a glitch from something you may have inadvertently done.

Dell has a fairly decent return policy....a wireless laptop bought earlier this year gave problems and was sent bak widdin the month....an yes, they emailed me a copy of the service call record...

2) When the multiple-Explorer windows popped up were they of actual web sites or just (blank) browser error screens?
it was a page wid microsoft internet eplorer as the heading...blank page that juss kept reproducing itself ...it was up to 55 of them wen i tried to reboot...the screen wid the option to end task came up but did nothing so i powered off the computer and restarted it...wen i tried to connect to msn i got an error message so i called MSN and in doing a check found that the modem was not showing up..does that make sense...so dat is wen mi call Dell and dem had me do whe me do
3) How is the PC working now?
dammmmmmmn slow....is like molasses but then i am back to dial up cause highspeed tru di cable company did gi mi laptop virus as dem tell me seh dat my not being able to sign on sometimes wid di highspeed was tru Comcast found dat some virus protection blocked di connecting..a so dem tell me ...so dem ha mi disable the firewall to chek if dat was it an in di time dat mi did dat, yes mi sign awn but den in di said shawt time, di laptop ketch a virus and a set of keys pon di mother board wouldn't work...dat was bout two monts ago..but dat is di laptop...dis is a desktop

4) How is the performance?

juss di slowness of connection...i do notice dat sometime me click di mouse an nutten no happen but mi did feel seh is cause it is wireless an maybe di signal bet it an di likkle tingie whe it need fi deh near to block..u can tell how technical i still am
5) Does all the other software seem to work OK?
well di internet scrabble, backgammon and spades work awrite cause is dat mi been using it fah apart from come pon dis site
6) What do you have your browser home-page set to?

er wah dat mean star...a how u do dat...awrite, mek mi confess seh dat wen mi get di lass box Friday , mi cawl smaddy fi come put it alllll together....him write dung mi service tag numba an di express service numba fi mi an is a lucky ting cause all mi can do is cawl an complain...wen di ooman tell me seh mi can open an fix it if she tell me mi did get likkle upset cause mi neva undastan di technical names she use to refer to di pieces of equipment [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]


I personally would test it out for a little while to see if it was just a glitch from something you may have inadvertently done.

(((Evan))) Alrite, since it sound like it di PC naa behave, an it may have gotton itself hold of, an deh pan some serious electronic crack an ah suffah from withdrawal, call dem an sen it back. Mek sure dem gi yuh wan RAM (return merchandize authorization) number/sticker fi put pan di return box soh yuh noh haffi pay fi return postage. Dem may mail yuh di new wan fus an tell yuh fi mail nack di old one within ah certain time.

so di ongle pawt mi fi insist on sending back is di lkkle harddrive tingy....di pawt mi had was fi open fi stawt di modem...cause JKid mi had boxes upon boxes wid di printer, surge protector, screen, keyboard, wireless port, etc etc etc....fi put allll a dem eena dem box mi no eena dat...so mi can juss seh dat mi want to exchange di tingy part...right

it ha wireless adapter so di keyboard, printer and mouse is wireless..di printer ongle ha plug to di electricity....u ha a cute likkle compact disc drive thingie that is the size of alaptop...a dat mi had was fi open up fi fix di modem thingie...u know, it have the disc drive whe u put een di cds etc..it is sooo cute...u push di button an di cover fi show di disc drive slide and go against the side of the box thingie...den u can get the drive open fi put een di cd...it is a miniature thingie...sooooo cute...anyway, dat is whe mi fi tell dem mi want to return...now dat is wat have some adapters plug eena it ..but the keyboard mouse printer not r all wireless...mi hope u mekking sense of all of that...so u can imagine how me an di dell tech in India was communicating wid great difficulty [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]
