I had the SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] What a disappointment. Doc, does the XP have everything (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)?

A trial offer of MS Word / Office or XP?

If it was a trial offer of Office, you can actually download the free Open Office from here IF you have a broadband connection. If not, you can send for the CD. The software is free however, and is a very good substitute for MS Office.

The only problem with Open Office is that the extensions are not .doc and MS word can not read the documents. I really like Open Office except for that.
I found out when I was sending out resumes created with Open Office and no one could read them! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img]

You used to be able to get 602PC full unlimited version for free and it worked exactly like MS Word but now you can only get a trial version! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70394-bawlout.gif[/img]

OK i just tried an experiment... saved a document in OpenOfc, then made a copy renamed with the '.doc' extention, and sent em both to my work

but - when i looked at the attachment names, my OpenOfc document did save as ".doc" [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img] hmmmmm [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

i'll come back and let yuh know the results tomorrow when i reach work and try open em [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Open Office CAN be saved as a .doc file that MS Office will recognize. I use to use the software myself a couple years ago.

the Open Ofc documents DID save as ".doc" - even when I did not force the naming convention.

The doc I named specifically with that extension, as well as the one created by Open Ofc on its own (left untoucehd by me), both opened just fine in Word. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]
