backlight on laptop monitor

... i can barely see what is on the laptop monitor. did a search on internet and found out that the backlight or video card or something has gone bad. i haven't found how I can fix this on my own. it is a compaq presario cq70 laptop bought from circuit city right before they went defunct. right now i'm hooked up to an external monstrosity laptop.

is the backlight replaceable?
can i fix this on my own?
is it fixable? still do not see how to open the monitor on the laptop...
is my laptop doom? no longer good if the backlight has gone bad?

it is fixable an yuh cyaan dweet pan yuh own.
Sometime it cost so much it betta fi jus buy a nex one.

Compaq's are notoriously prone tuh dis failure. Yuh need fi replace di laptop screen.
