I bought a used computed few months ago now it already had windows 98 on and it works beautifully. I put in a New video card and sound card (am so proud of myself) as I installed it. Now the colour is great and the sound is terrific the speakers are kicking.

My friend has Windows 2000 or XP on her computer system. She says Windows 98 is an old operatimg system and that I should get 2000 or XP. I have heard some horror stories about XP which is the best operating system and do you think I should just leave Windows 98 in. If they had exposed me to more things jamaican I would not be asking for a translation. XP has all the latest bells and whistles but if you are happy with how your PC is performing then why trouble it?

I use an older operating system too but it's fine for what I use my computer for, which for the most part is just checking email and surfing the net, so I can't justify spending money to upgrade.

I refuse to jump every time microsoft brings out a new system. When this computer dies then I will get a new one with the lates OS. 'Til then this will do just fine.

He is your Dad...Joke Milo.
They are right but some functionality that you can in a 33/64 Bit Operating System it just impossible in Win98.
My Computers are set to Multiple Operating Systems:
Dos, Win98, Win2k/Win-XP are selectable when I boot.

There are arguments for both side of the fence. Naturally I lean more to the upgrade side because I am a Techie. However, if you are satisfied, den lef it bi. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

As Tuff indicated, there are some upgrades over Win98. One of them being USB functionality improvement. USB port access is terrible to setup and operate under Win98. The drivers for it are horrible.

Ok what you said uptop or maybe it was someone else. I notice when I am powering on my puta there is WindowsXP something something, but Windows 98 is always highlited. Now am wondering can I use the up arrow when it is powering on to switch to this system. If so will it affect how my puta operated I mean will I loose stuff I have saved on the hard drive [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] Bear with me hear I am still learning and what I realize is girls lean more toward being brillian at languages [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] like myself. OK Mr. Tuff Gong,,am assuming you are male as my Dad have some old old stuff records he calls it. do not mean you are old i know I saw something with Tuff Gong label. He treats them like gold and threathen me with death if I touch his records. Well that strange...maybe it was XP before and the Kernel is still installed, does it give you a wait then default to win98 or does it briefly flash Win-XP then boot to Win 98?

You may try it, but if it is an incomplete, install or needs a password , it may screw up your system and it would need a little more knowledge to recover from that situation.
If you are happy with Win 98, you might want to follow daddy's and Mommy's advice… “an nuh trubble wah nuh trubble yu”!

Sounds like you may have both operating system present on your PC. Win-XP does five you the option of dual-dooting when you are installing it the first time. I am an adventurer, soh mi would use the down arrow key and then press enter to see if it will boot into Windows XP. If the system locks-up, just press CTRL+ALT+DEL or turn off the power switch. You can then re-boot back into win98.

Worst case is, you use will use the install disk(s) to re-install the operating 98 system.

Back-up all your data files (word, excel, etc) first though.

Do you know if the hard drive is partitioned into more than one dtive (C, D, E,....)? This question is important.

If you find that XP is not there and you want to stop it from displaying the dual boot. Here is a link to do that:

Well thanks for all the help Mt. Tuff and J. Kid. I got a summer jobin Toronto Ernst & Young Tower but the commute is so long when I get home I just want to sleep. I drive and take the train I am so in love with my car that I drove from Holland Landing 2 days but the parking downtown was killing me so expensive. I now drive part way and take the train the rest so have been so busy did not get a chance to come back on. I now have XP on my puta it was there all the time. Thanks so much for your help, right now my Dad is playing is Fossil music so loud that I can hear a buzzing in my ear the boxes are that close to me in the basement.he says he will move them to his muxic room (he calls it)tomorrow with some Fossil records and his needle stuff to play his music [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] Toodles [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70459-hugs.gif[/img]
