I have had Vonage for about a month now and absolutely love it.
Free calls to London England was a real bonus.
A couple of friends have high speed internet in Montego Bay and we chat daily without it costing a penny.They set it up with a US # and i am just dialing a local call.
Trying to get high speed in Treasure beach,so that way i can take a box next month with me and finally we can chat at a reasonable price.

yes...it is the bomb....they are also planning on going public...not sure what the latest news is on that front...

How does that work? Is it VoiP? I want to switch from AT&T It is costing me $140 monthly for high speed and phone and I am trapped with them for a couple years but I will pay money to get out of the contract if Vonage is that good.

We all need to switch to Vonage.
Especially as it is so cheap to communicate with Jamaica.
I was spending $60.00+ a month on calling cards to call Ja and UK, now i get free calls to the UK i spend hrs chatting to my mum.
High speed internet is in Ja so i intend to take a system home with me and hook it up.Then i can keep in touch for just the flat rate charge each month. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/bannana_purple.gif[/img]

so are you using DSL because you have a land phone line ? or because you use it for DSL internet ? Most companies will insist that you do land phone line with them if you want DSL internet.....

right now I use earthlink High Speed Online--cable modem...wich is fast and usually about 44/mth.....the VOIP is then about 19-22 per mth.

I find that if a cable company offers you VOIP ..they are usually 29-39 in most market....still way too expensive for VOIP ..since they are already ripping you off for cable tv [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70400-talktohand.gif[/img]

Well I am using AT&T phone and high speed DSL service...runs me $140/month. They want me to sign a 1 year contract at the end of the month in order to get the DSL for 40 bucks and if I don't it will be 60 bucks. So I want to switch to something less expensive with more features. What company you get your VOIP from? And is Earthlink fast? Do you get 1.5 mbps or 3.0 mbps? I currently get 3.0 and would like to maintain that speed when I switch.

okay..what i am saying is that to get DSL internet..most "phone companies" require that you MUST maintain a land line with them...which is cool..IF you still want to maintain a land line for whatever reasons....

Most ISP will offer you a choice of (1) dial up (2) dsl (3) high speed online.....

I don't consider DSL high speed but that's just me after using cable modem for a while....

avoid those stupid contracts...

cheapest option is to get internet thru your cable provider (which should be about 44 if you already have cable tv......then add the VOIP (thru an outside company ..not your cable provider) for about 19-25 depending on who you choose.......

most VOIP will dip out depending in weather conditions...once in a blue moon...but so does your dish or regular cable..so big deal...VOIP also does not allow you to dial 911..but if you are comfortable using your cell for that (like I am) then that shouldn't be a problem...plus they are working on fixing that .....

so the only bill that you are left with now is the cable bill and I don't know how much you spend on cable tv per mth...but I suspect mr skells nah guh mek yuh cut off him sports channels... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] so you are kinda stuck with that bill until something cheaper comes along...Dish is cheaper than comcast/cablevision and time warner.... skellion.. is verizon fios (fiber optic service) available in your area? I left the tiefing cable company dem fi fios and I dont have a phone # wid bell (have had vonage for a few years now) and it works great.. Only had 1 problem wid fios where I deleted the pppoe by accident but as I was recognised as a 'data only' customer it was an easy fix.

I pay $34.95 a month for fios , $50 a month for vonage (i have 2 lines (mi & mi madda) so have internet & phone fi bout $60 a month..
