iya..
Mi switced to Virgin mobile a few months ago (to get the promotional free camera), and maybe one big phone mistake.
First the equipment is crap.. the earpiece gets extremely hot after say 8 minutes a talk, and the speaker is low, suh the phone is practcally useless..
Noww mi call them to find out about Roaming while in Jamaica, only to be told, "its best NOT to even turn on the phone while in Jamaica as they dont have a roaming plan, therefore will be charged exhorbitant fees"..
Mi explain to the lady that I wont be using the phone unless is emergency, but need it on to be reached for work and to access the Contacts list.
She meck mi know once the phone is turned on, I will be charged roaming.

Doe this dont make sense, mi would prefer to avoid the headace of sorting a huge bill out, suh mi waa know...
- any Virgin users out there who have this roaming issue (in Jamaica)?
- What Canadian mobile service works great in Jamaica?
I'll be buying out this Contract with Virgin tomorrow and moving to another provider as the buy-out will most certainly be less that a exhorbitant roaming fee..

they all charge high roaming rates but i found Rogers gave the best service/ reception. beware of the smart phones cus they not only charge for the minutes use but they charge for data usage. for eg. u could be charge for emails coming in wether u are checking/reading them or not.

Virgin Mobile is the worse phone company
I had a prepaid one for my daughter and she went to Jamaica for the summer
the phone was left here and they took money off
and all now dem cant tell me why it was taken off
mi jus ditch them

cam u set up call forwarding from the canadian phone # to the digicell sim card while u are in JA?

You can turn off the data part of the phone. That is what I did when I was in Ja with my phone. Then I only use text and phone calls

Anyhow X, mi did buy one unlocked phone. Mi buy it pan line an it come outta BC. Mi shouldan did buy outta AB den mi wouldn\t pay nuh dyam hst. Anyhow.

When I went to florida I went to T-Mobil and got a sim cyaad feet, cost mi $50 and I got unlimited talk, text and 100mb of data nation wide. I had to pay more to call canada, but dat neh matta, mi just text de ppl backya an dem couldan call mi.

Suh when mi guh a yaad mi wi jus guh a digicell an get a nex sim cyaad fi when mi dung deh.

Mi nah buy nuh more phone pan contract, BUN DAT!

x i have used rogers, bell and telus in JA and only paid for the minutes i used. i never got billed for just having the phone on. but i know smaddy who get screwed over by bell wid dem iphone due to the data thing.

it still not worth it. last time i was there in 2009 bell charged me $3.50/ minute.

what u could do is buy a cheap digi phone while u there and leave a voicemail msg on ur canada phone advising ppl to call u on the ja number....if thats an option (ppl may not want to call u LD). u can always get the 1000 dalla farrin minutes so u can call home. u could even let ppl know u checking ur msg x amount a times fi di day and will call back etc?

mi have a Jamaica mobile phone still (good ole Bmobile) .. (strangely texting still works even though it has no credit). However mi really need to have the canada number active and reachable.

It is likley the Virgin agent dont know squat and it would only charge romaing if the data is on.. Nonetheless, as Dajah indicate, the contact thing is foolishness..
