NIC and wireless cord

Ok I need some help - no mifriend need and ask dumb me. LOL
Ok they put a router unto their notebook and now to avoid hackers they ned to put a NIC unto a pc and a wireless card unto a notebook.

How these work, cost and is it something you can just stik into a hole on the computer?

How did they already have a router (which is a firewall) attached to the notenook if there is no NIC card in it? The desktop will also need a NIC card , which in either case can be either hard wired or wireless. The desktop requires a board to be installed in the case, the laptop has it either built-in, or has a slot in the side that you can stick a small card into.

Thanks JKid. Let me explain what they said, she has a notebook that she has router attached to or something like that, secondly there is a pc that she needs a NIC for and thridly there is another notebook that she needs wireless cord for.

Can she go to say circuit city and just ask for a NIC card and also a wireless cord, or she needs more info.

Tell har noh goh in deh goh ask fi noh NIC card. Some ah dem people may wuk in deh but dem noh always too sharp. Soh tell har, noh badda goh deh an fry di few good brain cells whe dem hav lef. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] Yes, you can go and buy the required component, at Best Buy, Circuit City etc...

Tell her, to ask for an ethernet card (dem wi kno dat term) for the Desktop PC, and if it is an older laptop, ask for a wireless card to fit into the PCMCIA card slot on the laptop. By the way, they now have USB port wireless adapters that you can use on both the desktop and laptop. However, they don't work well if you have windows-98 operating system (Win-XP is better). The newer adapters looks like a thumb-drive.
