Yeah its called Windows Vista. I'm not very excited about it, and I probably wont buy/install it until my current OS cant keep up with software/games I run. I know McAffe got really mad and ran a full page ad in Financial Times to shame M$. You can read about it here:

Funny stuff and frankly I don't trust M$ to be the one stop shopping for computer security. They just don't have a great track record ....

I agree. But you know, I'm not surprised that Microsoft is moving in that direction, they've been dropping hints about security for a while...
One solution for MS could be to implement a stronger/efficient firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware into its new roll-out. We see that in the XP versions of rollouts are windows defender and XP own firewall stopping short of a system core anti-virus.
I would not be surprise if MS integrated a better/stronger firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus within its OS to safeguard the systems "various layers" including hardware, kernel, shell and apps/tools. Who knows the the system core better than the creators themselves. Ofcourse it all falls short if the OS is not implemented on 64-bit hardware architecture
