What advantage it has over microsoft OS?

How would I switch since spend most of my with microsoft os I am more familiar with it.

[img]/forums/images/graemlins/70371-jump.gif[/img] Yes, I have used it many times. I like it a lot more than M$ OS. The problem with Linux is that not enough people or companies are using it. Consequently you don’t have as much software out there as you do with Mac and Windows. The software is a little more difficult to configure, however once you get it configured, it is rock-solid. You are not plagued with the constant lock-ups like in windows OS. You will get some standard software built-in (unlike windows), so you can install Linux and will be ready to go without having to buy extra software to do your basic tasks. You will need to know a few command-line commands, which is where you will find the true power of Linux. Now which distro you use (and there are many) will be totaly up to your preference. I don't use it I have installed it a couple of times, but all of the programs I use are only written for MSOS Windoze.

It helps those who are trying to move from Windows to Linux. Personally I like to go cold-turkey. I don't want to contaminate a great operating system like Linux, with MS Windows problems and bugs. I want to keep them operating separately on their own (I used dual booting), but for those who want the flexibility you can use this software.

Now I see the big issue with linux. I my thought is these big company
that depend on window doesn't want no other operating system to take
it place other wise it would be very dangerous for there business.


Its almost every computer on this glob run by microsoft window.
So see why it often been ignore.

Big and small companies use both Linux and MS-Op, it depends on the application. I have an application from a one-man company that runs much better under Windows XP/2000 that any other operating system.

Linux is great for older, slower PC's because of its low system overhead. I have not tried Ubuntu distro specifically, but have used others. In my mind any, Linux on your older PC is far better than windows buggy software being on it, because with its more efficient design, you will see stability and increase speed. Go ahead and install it and play around with it, use it as a learning tool, until you get profficient at it.

If you have ZoneAlarm free firewall, you won't get any bugs. I haven't gotten any. ZoneAlarm is used as a firewall at many universitys.
