I hooked up my mac to my TV via HDMI and that other cable for audio

Disclaimer: I doan deal wid audio/visual connection sitten so mi quite proud of miself

the newer Macs (mid 2010 and later) do not have this issue but it is not well documented wid the TV manufacturer

Some HDMI carry audio signals.
There are 3 types of signals that CAn be included in it.
some carry HD video, then another carry HD audio And video and still another that carry twice the video And audio signals.
The latter can be duplexes later.
You should check your equipment manufacturer This see if it includes audio

Not all equipments have audio/video included in their type of HMDI.

in windows PCs yes but Macs are a little bit different Milo esp the pre mid year 2010 macbooks

Yes that is true.. My TV has an HDMI/DVI port and then 3 other HDMI ports . I plugged it in the wrong port initially then switched it around and it worked
