I think my wireless router might be dead, cannot get it to work. Cannot get it to reset, can't even access the manufacturer's admin page. It was a linksys.
What unnu suggest I purchase.

Thanks-am shooting for sub 100.00 since I will have to replace a wireless adapter as well.
I will get a model with less features, I don't think the speed boost thingy will benefit me
but definitely leaning back towards a linksys since the last one went about 4+ years
I assume it's dead, it could be some problem with likkelgen's new laptop that knocked it off, but I cannot think of anything else to try, so to heck with itComment

Try holding the reset button longer, at least 90 seconds while you power it on. While you waiting, it might seem like eternity. There is a master reset that is not published. One of the lights will start to flash fast. I forget which one. Might want to bypass the router and get the firmware before you do this. That master reset allows you to add firmware. Also post the model please.
Linksys now owned by Cisco. The E1000 is similar to some of the older Linksys. If you have Cordless phones, the E3000 has dual band capability so there is no interference between the two.
On the new laptop, set the network card speed to to a slower rate and see if that makes a difference. I've seen where some auto sensing network cards crash the network.Comment

If the first two doesn't work, that last one is using the command prompt that all routers have. If that last one don't work, you outta luck. Time for a new router. Compuseless have refurbs, but they also have new ones too.Comment

Dual band is used if you have anything else wireless in the house. Things like a cordless phone, video transmitter, etc are on 2.4Ghz. I have all of them. I still didn't spend the money on the dual band because most of the devices I use intermittently. I can also position the router in a different place. The other band is usually 5Ghz. It's not used much...yet.
The USB is normally used for hard drives or USB flash drives. Can also be used for printers, depending on the router. Basically any network device that you want all the computers to access. A hard drive on the network could be used for backups, music storage, video etc. Printers, well, everybody can print to it without having to share from another PC.Comment

Did you get a new Linksys? I had one that lasted several years as well. It died I think last year or early this year. Replaced it with a NetGear, it works fine, but it requires resetting too often.

mi supposed to pick it up at the store tomorrow morning. I am getting another Linksys/Cisco. The first one lasted about 5 years. Am staying far from netgear.
Will get either the E1000 or E1200. I don't need any of the extras.
hope this new one nuh give mi any problems
cause mi really not in the mood.
