laptop fan is very loud

I know it's the fan and not the hard drive. The laptop itself works fine. I think I bought it around 2009 (maybe 2008) but it was the year Circuit City went out of business. I rarely turn my laptop off ... it is on 24/7. I had it serviced a year ago after a system start failure but the noise from the fan is loud and it does not seem to slow.

Anyone ever experienced this with their laptop? I'm now wondering if it's an accumulation of dust that is making the fan work harder than it should Ok; I'm going to see if I can get it opened and see what the dust accumulation may look like.... given the fact that I keep it running all day without turning it off.

why yuh nuh tunn it off? dem tings are mechanical and have a life expectancy and u could be shawtenin de lifespan a de ting dat way.

Yuh could blow it out but it soun like yuh may need a new fan pan de mb. I had to change one cah it get nizy tuh.

You can try using a cooling pad. About $20 available from anywhere. Usually if you can hear the fan, it's running at speed. Most laptops have variable fans. Yes, dust can also cause an issue. You can get someone to vacuum out the insides of dust, but unlikely that will quiet down the fan.

lawd... mi go tek faas wid screw driver go open up the laptop... nutten but one piece a major headache. so so dust in there and it nuh vacuum out yet as I'm afraid of turning the shop vac on it

will I find a cooling fan at Bestbuy? My husband is saying it needs to be elevated so that air can circulate underneath it. i'm using his laptop for the time being and even though it is newer than mine, mi nuh like it... don't have my preferred settings, pictures, screen saver, browser.

Bestbuy have them, but you going to pay BestBuy prices. CompUsa also have them. And you're searching for <span style="font-weight: bold">cooling pad</span> which has a fan in it. While you might get lucky and find a fan that fits <span style="font-style: italic">in</span> the laptop, it mean you going have to tek the screwdriver to the unit. You might not have to. $20 is cheap to throw at it. The cooling pad can make a 30 degree difference in the temps of measured components.

Um...if the machine cooler, the internal fan would not need to run as fast and would thus be quieter. Musi' come from country...

Anyways, just fi satisfy all you iPeeps, ah tinking 'bout an iPad for a specific purpose. Problem is: the iPads shutdown just like the PCs in summer heat. Maybe the iPad 2S will help with that issue. Technology is wonderful when it work.

i got the laptop blown out. i did not bother with the cooling fan... i got a docking station and voila, no loud noise. also started putting the laptop to 'sleep' after use.
