Any particular reason you are stuck on the idea of a desktop?

Could a laptop work? You could hook it to a large monitor and still have the portability of a laptop.

Just asking the obvious question.

You didn't post the price, (or I'm blind) so can't tell what type of deal you're getting.

Anyways...No affiliation, but google <span style="font-weight: bold">cyber power pc</span>. Some of the fastest PCs out on the market. They have some specials running for Valentines day. I wish I could take advantage, but oh well. Specials like 12gb RAM upgrade. Liquid Cooling upgrades, etc. Yes you pay for them, but these days, I can't be bothered building my own pc anymore. Not worth the hassle.

A desktop will always be faster for this type of stuff. They can't overclock the laptops and they don't have liquid cooling for them. The video cards in a desktop are also faster, plus you can have multiple video cards which speed up the display. There is a noticeable difference between a multi-card desktop and a laptop with a big screen when displaying pictures.

I use iPad when traveling for work.

I also have a laptop which is collecting dust (iPad killed it)

Desktop stays at home and I don't need its portability.
The price for the quote above was around 900 US.

Just checked them out.
Looks good but the reviews say it takes 6 weeks to get the computer assembled and shipped.
I need it to be deleivered by the end of next week, so that I can pick it up in the US and fly it back to my house.

Any other companies you know with quicker turnaround time?

Some people swear offa Dells, but mi noh hav noh problems wid dem.

Like LinS, mi caa badda build mi own noh more, di last time mi did, mi lack di excitement, an was so bored wid ie.

Desktops compared tun laptops are soo cheap an yuh get ah lot more bang fi yuh comparable laptop bucks.

That's why mi waan a desktop. You get more for the $$$, and I already got two huge monitors which mi like for multi-tasking so mi cyaan bodda with laptop again. iPad serve as mi laptop on the road.

Anyhow, unless yuh ah goh du som serious gaming, or graphics wuk, den 8GB is more dan enough RAM. AMD or Intel Tripple, or quad-core processor. Obviously if yuh buy di latest wihch is quad-core yuh gwine pay more bucks. However, fi jus surfing girley........ahhh.....I mean nature sites, and business application, mi noh tink yuh agoh need dat kina power unless yuh jus love hav di latest an greatest gadgets.
Yuh will need either a dual-output video card, two separate video cards installed.

That place I mentioned can have faster shipping times if you get the pre-configured units. It's the customization part that slows it down.

The more RAM you have, the better. For photo editing, the faster cpu you have, the better. I like Dells, but if one were to compare each component, (video, hard drive, RAM, CPU, ) you can see where they cut corners.

Assume you're going to use Win 7...
8gb is good. I have one running in the lab with 3ghz processor and it is faster than the 4gb unit running the same processor doing the same task. If you can get more RAM, even better. The specs you posted will work for most photo editing. Next question you have to ask is how big are the picture files. They range from 1mb to 20mb per picture. When I used to play with PhotoShop, it used to add megabytes to a small picture when I started adding layers. Is 1TB total hard drive space enough? (500gb X 2) How are those drives going to be configured? RAID? Depending on the RAID configuration you might have less than 500gb total. There are also SSD hard drives which increase the performance of the PC. A 1gb video card is ok, but there are better units out there now. 2gb and fan cooled and those are used for the most intense games. Don't know which games you playing, and you might not need a higher performance 2gb video card but the gaming forums for the particular game will have that type of information. (so you can decide if you need to upgrade the video)

I don't think you will go wrong with the Dell, but as mentioned, if you compare piece by piece, you'll see there are occasionally better deals out there for the same price. I like to pay a premium up front, which in turn allows the pc to last a few years more. The typical life cycle now is about 3-4 years.
