I figured out how to delete the page I messed up on the site. Now I need help figuring out how to remove the link from the home page because when you click on it, you get a page cannot be found message. Is that something I can do or do I have to wait for the web designer to remove it or fix the page?

Re: Help Again
'page cannot be displayed' is usually a bad link (you fat finger'd a typo!)
Check the link again and if you still cant get it go to the page in question with a browser and copy the address bar and paste it into the html link.

Re: Help Again
No Reby...From the Public html folder, I deleted the page because I had messed up the background colour and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Now I want to delete the link from the home page. It was a "coming soon" link anyway so I'd like to delete it in the meantime until my web designer returns and can re-create the page.

Re: Help Again
Hmm so based on your description you should be able to just delete the 'coming soon' bit and re-upload to the public html folder. If you overwrite the original file it will change to your new one. If you don't think ya can figure it out just send me the page at and I'll fix it and send it back to ya.

Re: Help Again
Ok if you made the edit, then uploaded and over-write the index.html with the new one it should fix it. If you view the page and you still see the link there you are probably viewing a cached page in your browser. The fix is a forced refresh of the page (hold ctrl and hit F5). That should reload the index.html and show your edits. If it doesn't work then you didn't fix the page right or you didn't over-write the original index.html in the home directory.
Make sense?

Re: Help Again
Merciful Father Reby....Pleas speak English. In any case, the designer did reloaded the page that I had deleted however it still has the ugly background colour that I hate however the mister loves it. Is there an easy way to copy the background colour from the other pages to the new page? I've been comparing the codes on all the pages and I can't find anything different on the ugly colour page.

Re: Help Again
LOL! You'll get the hang of it, really this stuff is simple once ya have done it enough. As far as what to do about the backgrounds, first answer me this...what program are you using to edit webpages? I can get all fancy and confuse ya but lets keep it simple until you get on your feet.

Re: Help Again
Ok you used the words control panel, this makes me think you are using some graphical interface the host uses. You really need to get your hands on a decent html editor, you can do these edits in notepad but for the average user its a bit confusing. I really don't want to confuse ya so pm me a link to your site and I'll have a look. I can rip what I need from the browser to fix it for ya, then you can just upload the corrected version and your designer will never be the wiser
I use Dreamweaver 4 to edit and create webpages but its kinda expensive. I'll poke around and see if I can suggest a free html editor for ya.

Re: Help Again
Reby, any suggestion on a tool that'll alert me when I have new email messages on the site? I have quite a few email addresses that I need to check and it is a task going through them one at a time. I recall years ago having a tool that alerted me when I had messages in my yahoo and hotmail but for the life of me I can't remember what it is.

Re: Help Again
Not that I'm aware of Compry. I have 20 some odd email addresses because of my server and what I do is set what's called a forward on email accounts that I don't check. So what happens is joe-user emails me and then my mail server pulls the email from say postmaster@domaindotcom and puts it into my other main email account. This way I only have to check a few email addresses to get all my mail.
You still need to pm me a link to your site btw, I'd have looked at it by now but you didnt send it. I'll poke around this weekend and see if I can find ya a free html editor...I havent forgotten, just havent had much time this week.
