Half of Laptop Screen Black with coloured lines

Can anyone tell me what's happening to my laptop display and possible ways to fix it. I am currently running the diagnostic test provided by Dell. My warranty up so i bet they are going to charge alot to fix it so trying other options before i cave in and go to them.

It could be a number of different things, check your bios to make sure the onboard video is selected, then boot up in safe mode and see if the screen works. If it works in safe mode its a driver issue, download an updated video driver from dell or the motherboard mfg and install and reboot.

Bios - Reboot and hit del over and over until you enter the blue bios screen.

Safe Mode - Reboot and hit F8 over and over until prompted to enter safe mode.

Give it a go and let us know what happens.

bios? An error code OFOO136C came up during diagnostic tes running and extened test now

Ok that error is one you need to ask Dell about, since its their diagnostic they should know what to do. After I posted the above instructions it struck me that Dell probably has safe mode and the bios disabled so you may have to ask them directly how to get in to check it.
