What would cause a CD to explode into pieces in the drive?

Modern CD drives spin CD's at incredible speeds and if there is a flaw in the CD it is possible the force of spinning at high speeds can cause the CD to fragment and shatter. Usually this happens to old CD's, cracked, chipped, or otherwise damaged. If you have a cd that's damaged you should rip the data to a new CD and toss the old one (or save it if its proof of purchase).

Thanks Reby....my neighbour asked me about this. He said it happened to two CDs...I asked if they were the same brand and he said yes. I figured it had something to do with the CD...thanks again.
