the reason why we have problems connecting with the wifi & ethernet is because we have ip address conflict.

so mi ask when smaddy turns on the device and it sends a request to the router for a connection it supposed to give a unique IP address no?

I felt I did not get a definitive answer to our problem. We have to reboot the router at least once a week because we cannot get wifi and sometimes internet

I have been dealing with the same foolishness for the past couple days. Right yah now me had to bruk dung and connect a cable to the modem so me could use di laptop.

Funny thing though, di cell phones connect to wifi no problem.

I don't know what all those acronyms mean, but I reconfigured my modem and router...I think we should be ok for now. Comcast and Netgear were of no help.

How you have it hook up? Even with 40 plus people at my uncle's place, we don't have a problem via wireless. I usually see the IP address conflict issue when switches and multiple routers being used. You can get it to work, but sometimes you have to rig it depending on how the routers pass the information to each other. Usually you will have issues accessing the internet as posted.

To answer the specific questions, each gateway is usually setup as a DHCP server. The DHCP server hands out IP addresses, usually private 192 addresses when devices connect. Those addresses are handed out to both cabled and wireless. Usually when you get IP address conflict, some device had some 192 address already and possibly dropped the wireless connection. So when something tries again to connect, they use a n IP that has already been dished out to something else, and the 'conflict' occurs. That's the lite explanation. Depending on the router though, the IPs dished out for either wireless or cable can be changed. The limit to devices on wireless is the wireless router itself and usage of all the devices at once. With 18 devices in use, first ask yourself if there are that many devices in use by ALL the people in the house. Or is the wireless open? (If it is, both J-kid and me going come look fi you and give you a good beating!)

So now we back to the original question...how you have stuff setup. There may be a better non supported way to set it up to help from having to reboot the router. Non supported meaning the first level tech support will not support it when you have an issue, but that is not a problem. Sometimes them just read a script and don't think. Verizon fios modem? Router? What else?

verizon fios modem - out of the modem have 4 ethernet ports

port 1- internet TV
port 2- upstairs
port 3- kids computer
port 4- connects to the solar panel power monitor

port 2- upstairs connects to an ethernet 8 port switch with one of them connecting to a wireless access port repeater like this one


other connections on the ethernet 8 port switch are
printer
vonage adapter
hard disk backup device

wireless connections are i things and laptops

I had one of those repeaters in the lab and it got continuous ip address conflicts when in default mode. The switch could possibly be adding to the issue, but not sure yet.

Do you recall if the repeater has DHCP active? What about the DNS IPs in that unit? You'll need to log into the unit and check the configuration, but be careful not to change anything yet.

i dont remember how to log in to the repeater It has been connected without any issues for a few years now

What has been happening when we lose the 'wifi' we have an outage of ethernet as well. VZ said they will send a replacement router as we are 'due' one -since lose ethernet and wifi

It took me three days, but I fixed my issue. Comcast said it was Netgear, Netgear said it was Comcast.

Anyways, I basically reconfigured the modem and the router, reset everything and started anew. Everything is working fine now.

Ok, wait for the new router and see what happens. If you can't get into the repeater, you can usually reset it completely to default and start over. Depending on how it was setup before, might have to that anyway with the new router.
