So mi trying to make a document, but mi want to embed a watermark on it that would appear ONLY if the smaddy try print off what mi send them. Is there a way to embed a secret watermark? Or are secret watermarks illegal?

I have done regular watermarks in adobe writer. and mi just notice the other day that word allow watermarks as well.
i don't see why it would be illegal, nuh yuh a the owner a the document if you create it ? -

the word one not going to work as dem can use save as and delete the WM, better you find something in adobe.
if you can wait till tomorrow I will see wht I can find in adobeComment

that is what mi find out. i also put in the watermark and then emailed it as a PDF and them still....
So mi want to put on this one invisibly and then mek them shock when them try them faasness.

off the top of my head I would say if it something you don't want something to be changed/adjusted I would send it as a .jpeg with the water markComment

A PDF is the <span style="font-style: italic">easiest</span> way, but...
the problem is that if you can <span style="font-weight: bold">do</span> something with a PDF, you can <span style="font-style: italic">undo</span> it with any number of free utilities out on the web. Usually the paid utilities show up first. There are various security settings available when the PDF is created and in addition you have the utilities that can add or subtract those security settings. Even if you were to prevent copying of the PDF documents, people like yours truly who want to keep a copy of such document have ways.
Remember the document has to be displayed somewhere. If it can be displayed, I can capture or print anything I want.
If you print the watermark when the PDF is being created, the watermark will appear when the document is opened. Adjust the transparency of the watermark and it will always be there, but again, a PDF created from a Word document is easily converted back to Word, then that watermark can be edited. Etven if you use a password, that password is stored in the file and easily changed.
So lets say you print the document on paper with the watermark and hand it to the person. There is software that can take a scanned document and convert it back to a Word or text document with pretty darn good accuracy. So the answer to your question really depends on the computer skills of the recipient, and we shouldn't underestimate the power of google or bing.

PDF documents can be protected so that the recipient can't modify them in any way. I don't know about having the watermark show up only when printing though.Comment

yeah. we used to scan "documents" (which automatically saved as pdf files) and then use the same adobe acrobat to <span style="font-weight: bold">white out</span> words and/or type over anything

It can be protected from people who don't know how to use google/bing, or from people who don't have <span style="font-style: italic">enough</span> computer knowledge.
As I mentioned, it depends on the computer skills of the recipient. I take such security measures as a challenge because it annoys me to no end, not being able to print a PDF document when needed. There is even OCR software that will read from the screen. Some PDF's prevent you from saving it on the PC. As I mentioned. I take such things as a challenge. There is a reason I was looking for the information and I will get it somehow.Comment
